Photo of the Week 62

I have become something of a professional vacationer lately. I’ve hopped from Martha’s Vineyard straight to Myrtle Beach where I’m beach bumming all day and dancing all night with friends from Albany. While both destinations may be East Coast hot spots, they could not be any more different. It’s quite the contrast.

This is probably my seventh time here over the years; a recurring vacation spot thanks to my bestie Kristin’s family condo. I’m so happy to be back! Myrtle Beach is definitely a guilty pleasure.

Myrtle Beach Carolina Winds

Myrtle Beach is all about the condos. While they might not be as subtle at thatch-roof cabanas, they are a definite part of the landscape here.

Myrtle Beach Stingrays

I went for a long beach walk and came across almost a dozen dead stingrays washed up on the beach, a phenomenon covered by the local news. While I was sad to see some of my favorite little sea creatures in that state, it was interesting to get a close-up look!

Which photo is your favorite?

Need more reading material? This week I blabbed more about my hometown for Travel Rinse Repeat’s series The Local’s Take. Check it out! Also, thanks to Washington Flyer for naming me among their favorite travel blogs!

I remember once when I was living in Cayman there was one morning when thousands of baby filefish washed up on the beach. At the time there were all these scientists saying they had no explanation. Definitely sad but there is a weird science fiction aspect to these things that intrigues me….

Congrats on the Wash. Flyer news. Today is first time since 8/8 that my computer has worked. Are you still in NY? Have you heard anything about job?

I really like both but will go with B. Definitely unusual and perhaps sad like some have mentioned but also a fact of sea life I’d guess. I live at the beach about an hour up the coast from MYR (hi!) and have seen some unusual beach sights like so many jellyfish washed up that you can’t avoid stepping on one (crazy!).

If you are in Myrtle Beach, you really should head about an hour up Hwy 17 N and visit Wilmington. It’s my hometown and (as far as I am concerned) the best town on the Southeastern coast!

  12. Heather says:

B is sad, but a great shot. And best of luck with the job!
