Travel Quotes: The Beauty of What You Love

Normally I love finding great travel quotes, finding the perfect photo and merging them together into inspiring virtual postcards. This month, though, I found the quote was already in the photo…

Let The Beauty of What You Love Be What You Do - Rumi

When I saw this rock over the summer in Martha’s Vineyard, I knew it had to be featured. Of course this quote applies to so much more than just travel, but I think any long-term world explorer will find extra special sentiment between the lines.

For me, this quote has meant traveling in a way that allows me to sometimes work, rather than working in a way that allows me to travel. Of course, I haven’t found total success yet because I basically work full time, but at least I can work from anywhere. I’ve let the beauty of what I love — travel — dictate what I do and how I live my life. So far, it’s been an amazing ride!

What does this quote mean to you?

  1. I like this quote a lot. My greatest love is also travel so I’m hoping to be able to be “location independent” someday and work as a writer or photographer from anywhere in the world. Fingers crossed!

I love to travel also and work/play at the best job in the world for six months so I can play/travel the other six months.

Such a simple quote yet extremely meaningful. This should be advertised on billboards all over because it reminds us to take a step back and re-examine our lives. Thanks for sharing.

I love words and language and stories and sorting out complex information in a way that allows clarity to emerge. When I stopped talking about a life of full-time reading and writing and started doing it, it was like leaving Kansas for OZ. A bonus is that I can write anywhere, leaving my life wide open for travel, volunteer work, and time for family and friends. Working at other jobs (fortunately jobs I loved) for three decades and some random good fortune have allowed me this freedom. Alex, I’m glad you have the courage to do what you love so early in life.

  5. Alex, this is just one more message in sea if similar ones I have been getting lately! Maybe because I’m open to it, but at the moment I seem to be seeing them everywhere, and for the first time in my life, they make sense to me. Do what you love, live your own life, not one prescribed by someone else, and the only time to start is right now. Cheers to that!

  6. Great quote! It really makes you reevaluate your world. I am in the process of making what I love what I do. Which is of course traveling :)

It has always been said if you find something you love to do everything else in life will take care of itself.
