Sadly in 2018 a lot of those butifull places are now covered by lava but Kahana remains but the hot ponds and other hidden warm springs are now gone

I’m moving to Puna after 11 hellish, sressful and forgettable years in Los Angeles CA. In excited nervous and hipeful to say the least. I was just wondering if anyone could say anything about pets.specifically dogs. That live there .not wild dogs lol. I have a 22 pound service animal. A 6 year old JRT and I’m a little concerned about just his safety and well being.I’m hoping its a very dog friendly place. But then again he’s my baby and the best dog you could ever hope for. Any comments or words would be appreciated and accepted ! Thanks !

Great description of the area, can’t get enough, been all over BI and nothing feels like Pāhoa. We used to live in the Santa Cruz mountains in Cali, and Pāhoa is like a beautiful, tropical, friendly Boulder Creek x1000!
Maku’u farmers market is also a sight to see, vendors selling Rambutan, Crystals, old power tools, and delicious food…definitely worth the $1 it takes to get in.
