I love this, Alyssa. Maybe the seed is a sunflower seed :) I believe I'll be thinking back to this factoid often! So looking forward to spending time with you at our Hudson Valley Retreat later this year.

I read this shortly after you posted it but didn’t comment because I wasn’t yet sure what to say or how to say it, but I’ve thought of this post since because it resonated with me and I didn’t want to not let you know that.

Thank you for so eloquently pouring yourself into your writing and for sharing your fears and anxieties and hopes with us. Your posts are always so candidly refreshing, and, as a result, inspiring, but I can only imagine the emotional and mental capacity it must take to share such these raw emotions. One of my friends told me once that sunflowers actually grow in the toughest conditions, which surprised me because I think of them as such cheerful and bright flowers. But they can make a home anywhere and grow out of anything and will be the only plant around for miles in the middle of sand dunes. Basically these whimsical flowers are resilient af! So, wherever you choose to plant yourself and whatever your path forward looks like, I’ve got a feeling you’ll grow and thrive, no matter the conditions. :)

Wow, Jacqueline, that must have been wild. What a year -- I appreciate the reminder that so many of us shared in these difficult experiences (even if I don't wish them on others.)

I never thought of it that way but you are right -- water is not necessarily the natural choice for grounding ;-) But it is where I come home to myself. Here's hoping we all get back to the bits of life and work we miss in 2021.
