I know it is especially hard for long-term travelers to acknowledge this, but in the end, it’s just money. That doesn’t mean you didn’t work hard for it or that it doesn’t mean a lot, but money has no value except for what we spend it on, and as you rightly point out, while not an ideal outcome, things could have been so much worse. Nothing happened that you left any long-lasting scars, and I am so glad that you were able to convince the others not to rip of the guy running the bike shop. Considering how much $800 means to him, you guys definitely did the right thing!

In reply to Caty. Don't feel bad, we assumed the same thing at first. I went straight to a computer and started searching around to see if this was a common scam. When nothing turned up I assumed we were in the clear, as those kinds of things tend to attract a lot of attention!
