Very nice article, it reminds me a lot of some of my burn experiences.
I am a regular at Afrikaburn and have a weird question.
The Burning Man city is called “Black Rock City”, the AfrikaBurn city is called “Tankwa Town”, what’s the MidBurn city called?

I love the idea of disconnecting from the world and just connecting with complete strangers in such a weird and unique experience. It sort of feels like the way the world should be – connecting through shared experiences with people from around the world, regardless of race, gender, language, etc.

In reply to Jojo. Of any festival or event to attend alone, I think burns are the least intimidating in that they have in inherent sense of community and welcoming strays, so to speak. But they are definitely the MOST intimidating in terms of logistics and survival, ha -- since you have to be completely self reliant!

Great song to being the trip with! I have been saying I want to go to an event by myself. Scary but I think finding a brand new group out of nowhere at an event with people who are all there for the same interest would be unforgettable. Probably will start with a one night rave first ????
