All I want to do is eat.

Maybe it’s the food-centric Thanksgiving holiday, or maybe it’s just my undying love of a good meal. But lately I’m just obsessed with the idea of Eatcations. What, you’ve never heard of them? That’s perhaps because I made it up. Allow me to define.

Eat•ca•tion – noun – 1. A trip or vacation in which the specific purpose is to eat the destination’s cuisine. 2. A fancy sounding excuse to travel and stuff one’s face.

If I were going to take an Eatcation today, these are the top three destinations I would head to. Who knew my love of food could bring me from Mexico City to Bangkok to Rome?

The Mexican Eatcation

There are few things in life that make me happier than noshing on Mexican cuisine. And yet I’ve never been to its country of origin! For shame. If I love tamales, think how much I would love them across the border in Tijuana? If I enjoy barbacoa tacos, how much joy would they bring me in beachside Cancun? If I adore anything guacamole, think how delicious it would taste in Guadalajara!

The Thai Eatcation

A few years ago I had never tried so much as a chicken friend rice, but with a few pages full of Thailand visas in my passport, I’m now a full thai food convert. My favorite dishes are massaman curry, chicken cashew nut, and anything with oyster sauce. I’d love to take a dedicated Eatcation to Thailand and sample the different cuisines of the various regions, sample street food, and take one of the country’s infamous cooking classes.

The Italian Eatcation

As much as I love Mexican and Thai food, if I had to choose just one cuisine to eat for the rest of my life, it would be Italian. Nothing fills my tummy with joy like a heaping serving of cheese, bread, pasta, and tomato sauces. I dream of devouring my way through Venice, Naples, Rome, and beyond, all the while tasting the world’s best pizza, lasagna and wine.

Speaking of Italy. Want to go there?

Good! Because Hillary’s Blinds, creators of a new collection of fully lined roman blinds, are giving away a trip to Rome! All you have to do is “Like” their Facebook page, and answer an easy trivia question. The competition closes December 2nd at midnight. I’ve had a lot of luck with giveaways lately, and enter as many as I can. Somebody has to win!

If you win, you can live out my dream Italian Eatcation dreams thanks to a prize of £700 towards a weekend trip to The Eternal City.  You’ll send me a piece of pizza through the post, right?

Tell me readers, where would you take your Eatcation to?

This post was brought to you by the generous sponsors of the Trip to Rome Giveaway.

It would be way too hard to choose just one eatcation, because I think EVERY trip should be one 🙂

Ha, as a (recovering?) picky eater, I used to dread traveling to certain places, sure that I would starve! Unfortunately the places I most want to go (ex: India) do NOT correlate to the foods I want to eat (ex: Italian!)

By your definition every trip I take is an eatcation, haha. I would love to try the sushi/sashimi/ramen in Japan though, I think if I had to eat one food every day it would be Japanese.

I don’t eat fish and don’t like the taste of seaweed, so sushi is basically lost on me. I do like sake though 🙂

I believe I’d stay right in the Tampa, Florida area. All my fav restaurants are within driving distance. I wouldn’t have to go away – and at my age that’s a consideration. #1 Bern’s teak House, Tampa, #2 Lauro’s – east of Spring Hill, #3 Riverside Villas, Homosassa. And I can get my fav soup at all 3

I’m with you on the Italian eatcation – I could eat pizza, pasta, cheese and bread for every meal!

I agree with Gram E, I live in Tampa and have to say Bern’s is the best 🙂

It’s funny, I never had an inkling to go there (or most of Europe really) until one day I realized… IT’S THE HOME OF PIZZA.

I’m with you on Italian Alex! I went to Rome in the summer and ate gelato every day and pizza every other day! Mmm, now I’m dreaming of going back!

Yeah, I have a feeling any of these Eatcations would have to be followed by some sort of Exersizecation!
