Happy Monday! The past week found me in Boston and Albany. Boston was the perfect stopover en route back from Martha’s Vineyard, especially since my little sister recently relocated there from New Orleans. I’ve been to the city dozens of times — my Dad lived in Cambridge for years, and Albany is less than three hours away — yet I’ve never really fallen in love with it. I’m looking forward to discovering a new side to it now, though, and we got off to a great start with this trip. Sleepovers at the XV Beacon hotel, cocktails at Mooo, morning walks through the Commons, and an afternoon at my old favorite the New England Aquarium — this trip was short but sweet.
Post Boston, I spent a few days in Albany trying to get back on track with work and to keep preparing for upcoming travels. Considering how productive I am when I’m there (and how cute Tucker is when we’re both there), it’s kind of hard to tear myself away. But I’ve only been down in New York City for one night since I got back stateside — shameful! — and Brooklyn calls. Looking forward to a week spent working and playing back in my favorite city.
Check out the end of this post for some exciting blog news but for now, onto Photo of the Week!

Which photo is your favorite?
Calling all creatives! As promised, I’m starting up a featured blogger program. Interested in reaching a passionate, engaged audience hungry for great travel content? Read more here. Spots are filling fast for August.
I love Picture B! The contrast between the red brickstone and the grey modern buildings is very striking! But one of my favorite pictures that you posted this week was actually the one of your cousin in the Aquarium on Instagram! 🙂 That was silhouetting at its absolute finest! 🙂
Aw, thanks Melanie! I loved that darn aquarium. And my crew were great sports about coming along!
Hello,
it has nothing to do with the blog but what is your height? I am so curious, I had to ask ^^
Thanx
me
I’m a little under 5’2″. Very short 🙂
I grew up in Worcester, MA but never really loved Boston – until I wrote some freelance articles about the city now I’m dying to visit again! Funny how that happens.
My feelings on a places can definitely ebb and flow like that… usually I just love a place more and more!
Tough choice this week, but I vote for A! Can’t take my eyes off that reflection.
I think your featured blogger program sounds awesome – way to help others and yourself simultaneously!
Have a great week in Brooklyn. If you hear a lanky white boy you don’t know shout “Alex?” don’t be too startled, it’s probably me. I promise I’m not too creepy…er.
Haha, shout away if you see me 🙂
I LOVE Boston. I’ve been a handful of times (I used to date a guy who lived about an hour outside of Boston), and I could still go back. I love that it’s such a walking city and that you never run out of things to see. I also like the blend of old and new, but I think photo A wins it for me.
The lighting in that cocktail shot made me swoon!
Photo C for me! Jellyfish always fascinate me and those sea lions are kind of amazing.
We were pretty mesmerized by the jellies. They are awesome!
Are you serious with that Jellyfish shot?? Looks incredible! You’re basically a professional photographer. I loved Boston, but definitely did not get enough time to explore there. Hope your sister is loving the change of scenery (and accents)!
Aw, talk about a compliment! Thanks Shelly! Now that I have a fancy L-series lens I am feeling fairly professional (JK not at all but I appreciate the kudos 😉 )
My most favorite picture(s) certainly is photo A!!!
I love the colors that deliver calmness and summer feelings! Great for a grey day over here in Germany!!! Thanks for that!
Boston is a great place! I loved it there when I went there during a road trip with my husband! We had a lot of fun there!
Looks like there’s a lot of love for Boston in this comments section 🙂 I like it!
Photo A. If not for the Harvard University, I would have forgotten that I visited Boston 🙂 But, to be fair it was a short visit.
My dad lived a short walk from Harvard! Happy memories of strolls there 🙂
A! Killer depth of field on those cocktails & a perfect reflection photo. Never been to Boston. I’ve heard great things & yet I keep it in the category of “If life takes me there, that’s when I’ll go!”
I mean, I wouldn’t go rushing there… ha. Clearly my conversion is not complete!
Photo A – I love that reflection shot, and the tasty-looking cocktails. The jellyfish photo is a close second, though!
It was a pretty photogenic few days, huh? Loved how this set turned out!
I am choosing B. Boston is a city I’d love to visit one day.
I hope you get there then, Steve! 🙂
Oh my! <3 I love Photo B. I lived in Cambridge for 4 years and never fell in love with it… until I moved to LA. Now I love New England (from a distance).
Ha, we always want what we can’t have, right? 🙂
Picture B is great! I love Boston’s historic feel, and you captured it brilliantly.
Thank you Kacy! Boston does have quite the presence in that way.
I love A. I have only spent three days in Boston but I loved it and it is one of my favourite cities in the US. Sometimes it can take longer to fall for somewhere though, I only fell for Seattle after my third time there
That’s how I was with London! Third time is the charm.
C because wildlife. Duh.
We should be seeing some in about two weeks, chica!
The A series is what summer is all about for me, so I vote for that one 🙂
You won’t hear me complaining about some summer cocktails 🙂 Thanks, Tim!
I love A! So colorful. 🙂
A little rainbow of drinks! Swoon.
I agree with Melanie, photo B for me, Such a wonderful contrast between the old and new yet both are mesmerising.
It’s the combination of the two, I think. Such contrast!
Photo A! Those two photos complement each other beautifully 🙂
Thanks Michelle! Swooning!
I CANNOT decide this week, all three are stunning!
That’s what I like to hear 🙂
New England Aquarium looks cool and also the drink in first picture so this time i will go with Photo A and Photo C 🙂
Thanks for chiming in, Chintan!
I love Photo C – especially, the poses of the sea creatures.
Ha, that cracked us up. Looks like they’re little pinup seals, doesn’t it? 🙂
Love group A! I recently moved back to my hometown of Boston after 5 years in New York City and while obviously it’s no New York… I have to say things are GREATLY improving from when I left the city as fast as I could after graduating college haha. I mean we have Shake Shack now… and the SoWa market is (almost? kinda?) like the Brooklyn Flea/Smorgasborg. Also my first job ever was a tour guide at the Aquarium so it holds a special place in my heart!
I’m going to have to check out this SoWa market next time I’m in town — sounds amazing!
Photo A for me! I love the reflection in the right picture and the colors and placement of the cocktails in the left one.
Thanks Lisa! I had so much fun playing with my camera all week.
I’m heading to Boston for the Labor Day weekend! Is it do-able to see Martha’s Vineyard for one day while I’m in that area? I was thinking of taking the ferry from Hyannis to Oaks Bluff – will we get a taste of what Martha’s Vineyard is all about do you think?
Hey Amanda! How fun! Lots of people do day trips to Martha’s Vineyard. While I’m of course biased to think the more time the better, you should absolutely go for the day if you have the opportunity. You can easily use public buses to get around to all the towns on the island, with Oak Bluffs obviously being my favorite! Edgartown is also beautiful and a completely different feel. Up Island is beautiful with the iconic cliffs an the more rural setting but depending on your schedule it might not be a great use of your time to get out there. If you think you’ll be there late enough to have dinner, I’d consider Red Kat Kitchen in Oak Bluffs or Port Hunter in Edgartown — two of my favorite restaurants on the island! Hope that helps… let me know if you want more advice 🙂
This is PERFECT! Thank you so much Alex for taking the time to give me advice! I will definitely let you know if I need more advice 🙂 Can’t wait to start planning this day trip now, eek!
