I laughed as I uploaded this week’s Photo of the Week candidates, which were taken with everything from an iPhone camera to a high-end point and shoot to a borrowed dSLR so expensive it would have wiped out my net worth had I accidentally dropped it.
I’m behind on work, I’m feeling ill, I’m rushing to complete my Divemaster course — and I’ve never been happier. Maybe it’s the sunshine, maybe it’s all the compressed air, maybe it’s all the lovely friends who I somehow feel I’ve known for years. Life here has become a blur of blissful moments just bleeding into each other…. and okay, let’s be real — a few hangovers as well.
Photo A
Sunset bike rides around the island have quickly become my favorite activity on Gili
Photo B
My friend Steve let me play with his big fancy underwater camera this week. It was mostly disastrous, but I did get this one shot that I love!
Photo C
These days I am so grateful for any dive when I get to have a camera in hand!
Photo D
Cuttlefish are some of my favorite ocean creatures. What aliens!
Photo E
Somewhat cheating, as I clearly didn’t take this photo. But it so sums up how I’m feeling right now, I just couldn’t not include it. That’s Bali in the background!
Which photo is your favorite?
All the shots looks awesome! I love that last one of you in contrast to the sunset! What kind of camera did your friend Steve have? That underwater shot looks super sharp!
I believe it’s a Canon Mark 5! A beautiful piece of machinery.
Stunning photos Alex!
Your happiness is expressed in the last pic for sure. Hope ya feel better!
Thanks Shaun 🙂 Unfortunately still fighting a cold. Not a big deal in normal life, but it makes diving extremely difficult and painful!
I love Photo A! There’s just something about sunsets that always does it for me. So, I obviously love the last photo as well! 🙂 Glad you’re feeling so happy – it radiates through your posts!
xx
Thanks Melanie! I can’t help it… happiness is definitely contagious over here 🙂
A or E! Lovelovelove!
<3 Can't believe there are only a few more Photo of the Week posts till I see ya!
I love Photo E!!! Love to see all your posts and pictures!
Thanks Lindsay! That’s so sweet of you!
DITTO, A & E
Thanks for voting 🙂
Photo A – Sunset bike!
The sunset seems to be a winner 🙂 Thanks for chiming in!
Honestly, I don’t know if I have a favorite. They are all wonderful! The underwater shots are great, and the cuttlefish and gorgonian(?) in black and white are especially cool! E (and A, too) are beautiful! Especially so because they capture the feelings you express in this post – of happiness and vibrance.
If it is too hard to pick then I take that as a compliment 🙂 Loved reading your thoughts, thank you!
OK….C as far as a photo goes since it illustrates the complexity of nature, I mean the left side as a natural formation is amazing….but since you are the happy subject of E that get my POTW vote
I always love your analysis 🙂
Lovely photos and I’ve always been super envious of your underwater camera abilities. Love seeing your work though 🙂
Thanks Sally! Underwater photography is definitely something I’ve spent a lot of time (an money!) on, so I appreciate the compliment!
Stunning photos! I love photo A and E — I’m just such a sucker for sunsets! Beautiful!
Reading these comments is inspiring me to go watch the sunset again tonight 🙂
Photo E!
Love the vibrant colours and the silhouette effect. Beautiful!
Thanks! Silhouettes are definitely featuring heavily in photos of the week recently!
I love photo E, really captures your happiness! Plus, the colors are beautiful!
Believe it or not this photo is barely edited… the colors really were that vibrant!
Sunsets & silhouettes just about do me in.. E looks completely unreal and I love everything about it! A & C also get my votes
Thanks Kristen! Love hearing everyone’s favorites 🙂
E! It’s amazing!!!!
Thanks Andi! One of the photos that will sum up this trip for me, for sure!
I love A and want to hang it on my wall. Seriously, have you considered selling your photography???
I really hope that one of my best friends doesn’t see this comment… her job requires her to do a lot of image buying and she is always on me about getting on the stock photo sites! I would like to but honestly I’m not sure if I’m really at that level. Maybe I’ll look into it when I have some down time this summer 🙂
Love all of these photos! Too hard to choose, but I like A, C & E best…not that it’s really narrowing it down at all! 🙂
Ha thanks Jenna! I love it, tons of winners this week!
Def photo A. That’s such a gorgeous sunset and love the quirky bicycle 🙂
Thanks Sacha… I’m going to be so sad to say goodbye to that little bicycle!
Really love the sunset silhouette shots. But, think I’m going to vote for the coral in C.
The patterns in nature never cease to amaze me, and coral is one of the most amazing examples of that! Thanks Cat!
Great selection of photos Alex. It’s far too difficult to choose a favourite! We look forward to following more of your adventures.
Thanks for reading and following!
Alex, your images are stunning! Your joy is clearly conveyed in the last photo. I hope you feel better soon!
Aw, thanks Steven! And yes, long since recovered 😉
