Announcing Wanderland Waves: Island-Inspired Jewelry

It’s a pretty exciting day today at Wanderland HQ, friends — a headquarters that just so happens to sit on a lush, tiny island in the middle of a vast, beautiful ocean. It’s been hard not to shout this one from the thatch-rooftops these past weeks as we’ve worked behind-the-scenes to make this happen: today, I’m announcing Wanderland Waves, a collaboration with Amy Jennifer Jewellery on a collection of island-inspired silver jewellery handmade in paradise!

Amy and I met here on Koh Tao three years ago, where we’ve been chasing sun and living the tropical dream ever since. I’ve been a customer of Amy’s business since she first opened shop on the island — many of you have seen me wearing Amy’s work on Instagram, and I’ve commissioned several custom pieces for family and friends. I could not be a bigger fan of her work, or more honored that she’s allowed me to collaborate with her.

Amy and I are two beach loving ocean addicts as well as certified divemasters. We designed these easy-to-wear pieces pulling ideas from the natural paradise we feel so blessed to call home, using sustainable business practices and donating a portion of proceeds back to the waves and waters that inspired us.

This is a project I’ve been dreaming of for a long time. As much as I love creating content here on my little corner of the internet, I’ve long missed creating physical art with my physical hands, and have been working on several projects and products that I think will fill that hole.

And while I might not be the one creating these pieces with my own two hands — I’ll leave that to the much more experienced, talented, and qualified Amy — it was a joy to collaborate on a collection that I envision sending off with love from our tiny island all the way to your mailbox, where we hope it will bring you a little piece of our tropical sunshine wherever you go.

The Turquoise Wanderland Wave Ring

For the girl that loves a little color, we gave the Wanderland Wave ring some oomph and an upgrade with a 4mm Natural Turquoise Gemstone. If I had to paint Koh Tao in just one color, this would be it — the color of the traditional wooden longtail boats, the color of the water when you look up from underwater in the middle of a dive, the color of the sky right before the sun sets.

This ring is created with three gauges of silver wire and handmade silver beads recycled from silver offcuts. Silver, sustainability, and the sea — these are indeed a few of my favorite things. I’m not normally one to go overboard on jewelry but I love wearing all three of the wave rings together.

When Amy and I started dreaming up ideas for this collection, I really wanted to create something for those of you that are part of our extended family of wanderers who have left a little piece of your heart here on Koh Tao.

About Amy Jennifer Jewellery

My dear friend Amy comes from a long line of metalworkers, and after a youth spend working weekends in her father’s jewelry shop, she studied Metalwork & Jewellery Sheffield Hallam University in the UK. While traveling the world post-graduation, she got stuck on a little Thai island called Koh Tao.

Amy launched Amy Jennifer Jewellery in 2015 out of what was essentially a workshop treehouse in the jungle, having cobbled together the materials and tools required to start her business through sheer will, determination, and love. Having also launched my own blog into a business here on Koh Tao, it was a joy to watch hers too thrive and grow. As Amy puts it, she’s been causing chaos and creating treasures ever since.

Amy uses traditional silversmithing techniques in all her pieces — no casting or mass production manufacturing techniques here. These are pieces that will last a lifetime — the first time I bought a necklace from Amy she told me, you could pass this down to your grandkids, and I think of that every time I put it on. (Though in my case, it might be a grand-niece instead!)

Amy writes, “when you purchase handmade, you are supporting a dream.” As someone who is focusing on quitting fast fashion and investing instead in pieces that are good for the planet and good for the soul, this make me happy to think about.

Amy and I are lucky to be part of a strong network of female entrepreneurs on Koh Tao — I don’t know what I’d do without my partners-in-crime, er, partners-in-creating-sucessful-small-businesses-that-bring-joy-creatively-fulfill-and-support-our-untraditional-lives-of-adventure, more accurately.

Giving Back

Because Amy and I see firsthand every day how delicate our beautiful planet is and how important it is to protect it, we’ll be donating $1 from each sale to the Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots non-profit environmental organization that works to protect and preserve the world’s oceans, waves and beaches.

Amy designs using sustainable jewelry techniques and all pieces are delivered in eco-friendly, plastic-free packaging.

I love supporting artists, I love supporting fellow women, I love supporting entrepreneurs… so imagine my excitement at collaborating with someone who is all three.
