This week both Anders and I said a sad goodbye to Gili Trawangan. Soon, I’ll be headed back stateside and he’ll be on his way back to Denmark. But first, we have a week in Bali to ease the pain!
While this is in part a work week for me — I’m doing research for some freelance tour and hotel reviews along the way — I’m also looking forward to some serious relaxation. I don’t know when I’ll be back in Southeast Asia again, which is a sobering thought. Time to soak up the days I have left.

Which photo is your favorite?
They are all interesting and are good representation of your time in SE Asia. I think I like B because I am an architecture buff and am curious to see more of this building and the setting it is in .
It was a pretty cool hotel for being cramped into a very urban setting. They wrapped all the rooms around a pool in the narrow central courtyard. Now I am at a different hotel already, The Sheraton in Kuta, and they have done a fantastic job creating an oasis in a chaotic beach front.
C! π Please shoot me an email update when you get a chance. I’m dying to hear the latest goss. π
I definitely will! Or better yet, we need to meetup again and have a poolside gossip session π
The A’s… Love the patterns in nature.
Me too! That banana picture is one of my favorites in a long time… and I took it on my iPhone!
I like the jungle in C. Take solace in the idea that large continental calamities or meteor strikes aside South East Asia will still be there for some time to come. And there is still the rest of the world to see π
True, but it is a part of the world changing so fast! And so sometimes I sit around and panic and wonder if I’m a fool not to scrap it all and head to Burma, STAT! But I guess you can’t see it all… at least not all at once.
I am going to go for A. I like the contrast between the two photos.
Thanks Steve! Can you believe both were taken on my iPhone? What an amazing piece of technology!
C! So pretty.
Thanks Kaitie! The scenery was SO spectacular.
I like the look of that hotel!! Enjoy and have a lovely week π
love photo A
B — love the way you captured the hotel and its interesting architecture.
I feel for you; I know how special Southeast Asia is for you. But I know you are enjoying your current adventure (which looks amazing via instagram), and the next will arrive before you know it.
Even being home is an adventure for me π I’m super excited to spend the last remnants of summer around New York and Martha’s Vineyard. It’s my favorite time of year in two of my favorite places!
I love Photo A! So dramatic! π
Thanks Melanie! It’s been a shock bananas haven’t made their way into Photo of the Week earlier…
Alex, Great photographer. “C” is favorite.Might be a good idea to mix some photo tips in blog;evidently you are doing something right?Maybe tips on versatile lenses, filters,f stops and film speeds, time of day etc.You could tackle photography like diving. You have a great “eye” and are so talented… would love some regular tips.
I have written underwater photo tips for other blogs and for a magazine, but never on Alex in Wanderland! There are so many fantastic photography blogs out there, I guess I don’t know how much I can add to the conversation π
