Greetings from Honduras! This week I spent five much-needed days recharging in Guatemala City with three of my Brooklyn friends who are currently based there working on an architectural design project and marveled at all the hidden gems the city had to offer. I felt so lucky to experience a city most backpackers blow through — and to truly enjoy it. I am looking forward to eventually writing more about my time there.
But eventually, it was time to head towards Honduras, my last stop in Central America! I broke up my journey towards the Bay Islands with a few days in the sweet little town of Copan, where I toured the Mayan ruins of the same name, got up close and personal with some parrots and mostly just sweltered in 100°F heat. Next up (and final stop!), a return to the beautiful island of Roatan.
But now, onto Photo of the Week…

Which photo is your favorite?
Oh… you’ve made it difficult this week but I’m going to go with D. I like the composition and the snapshot in time shows movement and tells a story. Enjoy Roatan!
Yes, I love the movement in that one as well. It was a really fun day out!
E! Love the toucan!
They are just the most bizarre looking creatures. I can’t get enough of the colors!
I’m going to agree with Michelle and go with D…because it is one damn fine photo. I’m one of those tourists who blew through Guatemala City. Looks like I missed out!
I never would have guessed what was there and would have done the same had it not been for my amigos there. Excited to blog about it!
Tough one! I think I’ll have to go with Photo C.. the colors are just so vibrant!!
It was a beautiful door to come home to!
I’m going with B this week. Simple but powerful colors and shadows. Love the toucan as well!
Thanks Emily! I love B because I love the people in it 🙂
I love toucans,so its gotta be photo E!
He’s a popular little guy 🙂
The toucan – I can’t believe those things are real, like look like cartoons come to life!
I know! I was really marveling this time. Like, who made that?! They are quite a feat of nature 🙂
A! Colorful cafes hooray!
Girl after my own heart <3
Love the photos! Guatemala is on my list 🙂
Thanks Priya! It’s always been high on mine as well… so grateful I finally got there.
I love photo F! And photo E- toucans are the coolest.
I think they might win the title of world’s coolest birds 🙂
I love the colors of A. The frames need to be straightened. The toucan is very good. But I love C. The area personified, I think. HGTV just did Roatan, looking for a B&B. They looked at Turtle and Sandy Areas. Bought a future b&b and dive service called Papaya Paradise???
Hmmm, I will have to ask my friend on Roatan if she knows anything about it! She was almost on House Hunters International down here 🙂
So many colors! I love how you can feel the vibrance bursting from each photo. I’ve gotta go with F this week – that plant is just beautiful and the ruins are fascinating. 🙂
I thought I might have been ruin-ed out by the time I got to Copan, but they may have been my favorites! It was magical.
Photo C for me! I love how the vines are engulfing the mural. Looking forward to Honduras posts!
Coming your way soon 🙂
Photo E – The Toucan. Unusual looking beasts.
I love them so much 🙂 This one was quite curious and fun to hang with!
I love that we’re all choosing different photos, I think that speaks about how they’re all great 🙂 Toucan all the way for me, with A and D as close contenders! That cafe looks very cool, definitely a spot I’d like to work from (wifi allowing)…
Wifi was free flowing and strong 🙂
Photo F!
Again, I love the geometry in the two pictures
Me too! I’m addicted to pattern…
Really looking forward to reading more about Guatemala City. I have heard only bad things about it from tourists and the press, and like you said, nobody ever goes there as it is supposedly too dangerous. A friend of mine lives there and she said she never had any problems, but she is Colombian, so I’d be interested to get a gringa perspective. 🙂
Yeah it’s one of the places I’m most excited to write about because I it’s pretty off the beaten track for tourists. I feel very very lucky to have had the opportunity to explore more thanks to my amigos in the area!
Gotta be F – unusual plants and ancient ruins, two of my favourite things 🙂 Looks a bit like the Heliconia flower from the Peruvian Amazon actually!
YES! That’s exactly what I said to the girl I was with! It’s like an upside down, sprouting Heliconia 🙂
Oooh I love F…those ruins are REALLY cool, and I love them paired with that colorful plant.
Thanks Kelly! It was a gorgeous jungle setting…
Looking forward to your Roatan posts! One of my favorite places to visit on the planet!
It’s fun returning after five years have passed! You can see some preview pics up on my Instagram already 🙂
They’re all gorgeous, but D grabs me the most. Something about the angles on the roof line are mesmerizing, and I like the naturalness of the people in the photo as well. Great photos.
I always love to capture a true candid 🙂 Thanks Shirley!
Photo A. Vibrant. Alex – I hope soon, you can write a blog article on romance during travelling (aka holiday romance) The trials, triumphs, tribulations and of course, heartaches. I met one recently and you can say, after he had gone home to his home country, our communication has kind of stalled now. I’ve been upset since and yes, it’s not cool. This is when you begin to doubt yourself (low energy, what did i do wrong, etc…)
Check out my confessions category, Julia 🙂 Plenty of romance gone wrong stories in there!
I choose Photo C – because I love the illustration of that lady’s face.
And I love how the door is kind of hidden behind it. Swoon!
I’d have to go with Photo C. That artwork is amazing!!
So much creativity in one little corner of the city. I love it!
Oh my gosh, they’re all so colorful! I’m going with A because I could totally see myself there right now.
Central America continues to amaze with the colors 🙂
