Greetings from Los Angeles! Well, more accurately, from LAX, from where I’ll soon be taking off again for the East Coast. This week absolutely flew by. I kicked off the week crossing from Tennessee into Kentucky, where I soaked up as much as I could of the Bluegrass State in my less than forty-eight whirlwind hours there. Then it was back to Tennessee and onward to California, where I spent Father’s Day with my dad and little sister. I love how much time I’m getting with family this summer! At first it was an adjustment to think of my dad so far away on the West Coast, but he’s thrilled to be in Los Angeles and I look forward to exploring his new city with him. I’ve already booked a trip back in September, as this one was all too short.
Now, I’m looking forward to a busy week of working back in Albany, winding down from the action packed two before it. I’ve learned how important these weeks of downtime are for me, and to cherish those empty swaths on my calendar. Happy Monday!
Kentucky horses, roaming regally
A popular exhibit at LACMA in Los Angeles
Looking up and down in LA
Which photo is your favorite?
It’s a close tie between B and C but B wins out mainly because I KNOW THOSE HORSES
And those horses know you 😉
Haha! Alex you are really funny 😀
Anyway, some beautiful photos collection of california. I like B.
Ha, well Kristin and I met those horses together, actually! So they do know her 🙂 Thanks for voting!
I like C. It’s a great angle. Never been there so that’s kind of a factor!
I bet you’ll be going there soon 🙂
Photo A! We JUST came back from Woodford Reserve distillery — guess why we ended up there? I saw it on your instagram! We were there Saturday, and it rained so hard, but it was still pretty neat. Now I want to go back for those rolling hills and the horses 🙂
Aw, I love hearing that Jenia! It’s a beautiful little spot, huh? Sorry to hear you had rain — I guess the bourbon tastes the same regardless of the weather, though!
Love the pics, I like Photo B the best though :).
I can see why 🙂 Thanks for voting, Stephanie!
Photo B – gorgeous horses and gorgeous setting! Photo D is a close second though with your adorable printed pants 🙂
They are actually part of a jumpsuit — no surprise there. It’s the summer of rompers and onsies!
I love B – picture perfect KY!
From what I saw in my brief time, I have to agree!
I love what you did with D!
Thanks! Just little snaps with my iPhone 🙂
Nobody here likes C? I think C is the best!
Ha, I like C 😀
Love Photo C! Such a cool shot.
I envy those who have so much freedom to travel to places and experience things and meet people. I have been tied to a desk job since times immemorial and will continue to do so. But I love to read these blogs and can be to places in my vision. Thanks for a wonderful post. And oh, I love photo C because its so artistic.
While I am fully location independent, there are plenty of bloggers who do a great job of juggling a desk job and a love of travel 🙂 Happy I can bring you along with me virtually at least!
Photo B is just stunning, but you’re also really doing L.A. justice. You don’t always see such lovely photos of it. Enjoy your downtime!
I actually did find it a difficult place to photograph! Sprawling not just geographically but also metaphorically… it’s a hard place to capture. Thanks for the compliment!
I just love D. It’s simple, artistic, and creative. And I love those flats!
Thank you Sonja! They’re from Target 🙂
obsessed with the colours in “A”!
Kentucky was awash in those bourbon hues. Love love love!
I love the Up/Down perspective in photo D!
Thanks Mary! Having fun with my iPhone 🙂
C rocks! A forest of artificial trees…
It’s a super popular public exhibit. I can see why! There is something really magnetic and mesmerizing about it.
Photo B is awesome! I think the contrast of the horses against the background makes the picture look really pretty!
Thank you! It is quite the majestic barn, isn’t it?
I am choosing photo B. Love the distance of the horses. Almost spying.
Ha — I DID feel like I was spying, as I peered over the fence 🙂
Woo hoooo! Welcome to LA Alex!!
Thanks Kerjan! This trip was all too short.
Gonna go with D! Sweet juxtaposition of the two photos, and the blue sky/palms combo takes me straight back to LA.
I love driving along a palm-lined street — it’s one of those magical California moments!
The last photo is so cute. People always loath at graffiti/street art, but I am sure this particular stencil makes a lot of people smile every day.
It definitely stopped me in my tracks! I can’t imagine how anyone would dislike it…
I love photo C! Although the very cute horses are a close second 🙂
Animals always have that edge up, don’t they? 🙂
Photo B! Those horses are beautiful! I’ve driven through Kentucky many times, but I’ve yet to be able to actually spend more than just a night there. It’s such a beautiful state!
I was only there for two… wish it could have been a bit longer. I heard great things about Louisville!
Photo B is absolutely amazing! I love the colors and the composition, a great shot really.
I also like the looking up and down bit of photo D. Simple, yet imaginative.
Thanks Lisa! #ihavethisthingwithfloors is a great hashtag to follow on Instagram if you’re not already…
Photo C! Just beautiful!
Thanks Amanda! It was a tough spot to photograph with so many people around but a gorgeous piece of art.
C & D are great, I can’t really choose! C is amazing because of the composition, but D is original because of the up and down angles.
Aw, thanks Jessica! I like to make it hard to pick…
I choose B – because horses are synonymous with Kentucky.
So, it seems, are bourbon and bluegrass 🙂 I learned a lot!
I choose D!
Looks like the winner this week!
It’s got to be photo B! It just looks so serene and painting like xo
You make me want to paint it!
I love all these pictures! But it is a close one between picture B and picture C. I love horses and they are just adorable. But these beautiful lights in picture B get me all excited to see and travel more to every imaginable place! So it is a pretty tough call for me either way.
I love making it hard to choose 🙂
Hi Alex! Well, it’s been forever and a day since I’ve been on your blog (boo) – I now realize how much I’ve missed it (yay) so #goalinlife is to start reading more regularly again! 🙂
Your photography continues to impress me and love seeing how you’ve improved and you’re developing your own Alex photography style. My faves in this series are the looking up ones (palms & lights exhibit).
I’ve missed you! 🙂 And thank you! I look back at photos from just a few years ago and cringe. Practice is the best teacher!
Omg I see that LACMA in just about every instagram photo my friends post of Los Angeles!! It’s quite ironic that when I visited, my Roomorama apartment was super near it but I didn’t actually take a picture…. Oh well, guess I’ll have to do what I missed out on! Anyway great blog, I just stumbled upon it! Please continue blogging, I’ll def drop by x
Ha, Instagram is what inspired me to visit as well! I wasn’t disappointed…
