Greetings from Martha’s Vineyard! I’m super pumped about this edition of Photo of the Week — why? Because it was my first week shooting with my new camera! And what a place to do so. Martha’s Vineyard was bursting with energy this week as visitors flocked from far and wide to take part in Fourth of July festivities. Our own little cottage was packed with a group of nine, family and friends we were so excited to show our beloved island off to.
It’s been the perfect mix of ambitious adventures and laid-back chill, of enjoying old favorites and exploring fun new discoveries. Less than two weeks on-island just wasn’t enough for one summer and I’m already scheming to see if I can make it back one more time this season. But for now, I’m onwards to Boston and then back to New York to enjoy some downtime and prep for my upcoming dive trip to the Caribbean. I hope all my fellow US readers had a fabulous holiday weekend!

Fireworks over Edgartown!
I loved celebrating my travel and blogaversary with you on the blog this week, but I’m looking forward to getting back to reliving my Central America travels. Coming up this week is Belize — stay tuned!
Which photo is your favorite?
Good fireworks shots get me every time! Nice one! They can be tricky π Tripod, super steady hands, or random ledge somewhere?
Steady hands, and a great new camera!
It’s gotta be C, I just adore alpacas! They’re probably safer in Tisbury than they are in Peru, where alpaca steak appeared on so many restaurant menus!
Ha, there were definitely some alpaca steak jokes flying around with this crew… the staff were not amused π
Photo D, love the colour combination!
How do you like your new camera?
I’m absolutely loving it so far! Definitely still lots to learn and adjust to after having my last one for almost five years, but I’ll get there! (Or I could always, you know, read the manual…)
This is an EEEasy one for me. Happy Fourth! I remember your post from the Fourth last year very well–easily one of my favorites.
Ha! Thanks Jason. I’ll have another one where that came from coming up soon π
Breakfast cocktails… Yum! What’s in them and are they alcoholic?
Bourbon infused bacon in the one in the left, and a bloody mary-like concoction on the right! Alcoholic indeed π
Sounds delicious and disgusting all at the same time Alex!
That fireworks photo is phenomenal, but alpacas are basically the sweetest animals to ever exist, so I have to give it to them!
It was pretty entertaining hanging out with them for a bit! The noises they make are HILARIOUS!
E — those homes are too beautiful! Congrats on the new camera. I’m super jealous!!
I’m obsessed with it! Can’t wait to eventually do an in-depth post on it, once I’ve really gotten a feel for what it can do.
What a great fireworks shot! I’ve never figured out how to do that. Are you just loving your new camera gear?!
Beyond loving! Well, don’t have the underwater camera yet — but definitely crushing hard on the new dSLR. It’s made taking photos fun again! Though… I definitely still need to adjust to the weight.
I am choosing F. I was fortunate to witness 4th July celebrations at Washington DC in 2000. The photo brought those memories flooding back.
That must have been a really fun place to celebrate! Glad you had that experience, Steve.
All of the pictures are cool but Testing breakfast cocktails at 20byNine is an awesome picture! π
Thanks, Chintan! Having a new camera I’m crushing on means it even comes to breakfast with me π
They’re all great, the new camera seems to be a winner! My winner would probably be the alpacas, because they make me smile π
Oh man, I wish that photo could have come with sound effects. The noises they made were hilarious! We couldn’t stop laughing.
That’s weird…. I don’t see my photo and yet I was present???
Well you and mom look so much alike, you’re basically in Photo A.
Alpacas for the win! So weird and adorable π Loving the new camera, all of the shots look fantastic and clear!
Thanks Shelly! So far, I’m obsessed! The only thing I need to get used to is a bit more weight, and treating my camera like a delicate crystal figurine again π
Ooooh. I wanna play here!
Happy July 4th weekend Alex and to all American readers π xx
Thanks Sarah! Much appreciated x
Photo E. Those houses are impressive! I love how proud of your flag you guys all are. If we put a St Andrew’s Cross up in Scotland we get told we are anti-English. We’ve noticed a lot of maple leaves in Canada so far!
The flag is always pretty popular around these parts, but fourth of July week is definitely the most red, white and blue of them all! And yeah, the Canadians are equally patriotic π
Fireworks for me!
You nailed what Vegas didn’t 12 months ago π
That shocks me — I’d think Vegas was the land of grand fireworks! They certainly normally excel at all things bright and shiny π
I love them all! They all tell a story together I think. Happy 4th Alex… so excited to see your new photos via your new camera!
That’s always my goal, Michelle! Thanks for seeing the big picture π Oh and yes, these photos are from my new camera. The very first batch!
It was a tough call between the alpacas and the fireworks, but at the end of the day, I *did* marry a Fourth of July baby so…
F!!!!!
What a fun birthday! I love it. And you guys. And let’s go to Bonaire in like two weeks, shall we?
What a wonderful blog of your. A must read article plus a great shot for the fireworks make the blog more appealing. Continue with your craft… Keep it up!
Thanks! More where this came from coming up soon…
Keep it coming… For sure they are inspiring!
Um, typically I would go for the fireworks shot but those breakfast cocktails just look too good. What is in them?
Bacon infused bourbon was the highlight of the one on the left!
Love the first one! So happy and brings proper family summer feeling. And fair! I also like the combination of a bigger picture and a detail picture.
Thanks Tiina! I think a good photographer always has a mix of both π
I choose E – the houses look lovely
We love our neighborhood! Couldn’t be cuter.
Sexy biceps aka Bearded Bartender, looks like it’s him in that pic. Or it’s just an illusion?
It is him indeed! One of the nine family and friends that came onto the island for the week π
The firework picture is amazing! I also love photo B for the colours!
It was a pretty colorful morning π Thanks Aftri!
Photo C. Alpacas are pretty cute, never seen them before.
This was my first time up close and personal — it was awesome!
Photo F! Just beautiful – I love fireworks!
They are my FAVORITE! I was so excited to finally catch some fourth of July fireworks after seven years!
I love the fireworks shot, but I have to choose Photo C – just looking at alpacas makes me happy, ha.
You’d love this alpaca farm, then. It was equal parts scenic, hilarious, and cute!
I love photo E, those cottages are adorable!
We love living in one! It’s like playing in a dollhouse π
Those cottages are adorable, breakfast cocktails look delicious and the alpacas look… weird. So used to seeing them all fluffy it’s strange when they don’t have their fur! xo
PS) Favourite photo has to be A, just because you can’t beat Mummy-Daughter time!
Haha, they were a little funny looking all recently shaved!
Alpacas and cottages! I just had to look up Martha’s Vineyard, had no idea what it was but looks like a lot of fun…
I have plenty of posts about the island, Camille! Find them here. One of my favorite places on earth…
