I’m back in New York, and I have one overwhelming emotion: brrrr! Those six weeks in Hawaii were some of the happiest I’ve ever had, and I admit it’s been a shock to the system to come back to cold air and grey skies. So many of the things I enjoyed so much about home this summer are no longer possible or pleasant: meeting up with a friend to walk our dogs in the park, running in my neighborhood (okay I never really enjoy that but it’s much worse in the cold), working from my deck, spending lots of time with friends with lighter summer work schedules. For now, I’m keeping so busy that at least I’m not dwelling on my lack of Vitamin D. In the week since I’ve been back I’ve celebrated my best friend’s birthday, gone all out for Halloween, escaped Hurricane Sandy and thrown myself into work.
For Photo of the Week I wanted to focus on something positive that I love about fall. So when blue skies came peeking out for an hour I grabbed my mom and one of the colorful autumn leaves I love so much and we had a little photo shoot.
Do you struggle with the winter blues? How do you deal?
Fall is OK, but like you I don’t really like cold. I have a few more months to go but then I’ll be very warm in Central America.
Wow, that’s really something to look forward to! I can’t really complain as I am headed to Vegas this week, Florida next month and then back to Asia in time for New Year’s Eve. So I have lots of warm weather coming up but the freezing bits in between will be tough.
Ahhhh! Only one photo of the week! It’s so weird to be somewhere without fall (or winter) for the first time, so I am loving your photo 🙂
Sometimes I get a little lazy 🙂 I missed fall and winter last year… I missed fall a little, but I didn’t miss winter ONE BIT!
LOVE it
Always look forward to your loquacious comments 🙂
Fall makes me feel cozy…the bright lights in the warm kitchen and eating comfort food are two of the things that I enjoy about the cooler weather. I eat differently in the cold weather than I do in the spring and summer – homemade soup is a staple in the winter, but never in the warmer weather, for instance. And seeing all those reds and yellows of the trees against crystal-clear blue skies never ceases to give me a thrill!
I like your perspective Betsy, I’m going to try to see it more positively from now on 🙂
Really cool photo, love Mom’s rings too! Tiffany? I used to have a fake ‘mesh’ ring 🙂
I believe the mesh one is! I’m not sure about the other, probably from her travels 🙂
I like the photo of the week, Fall, warm weather and every year when winter approaches wonder why I still live in the Northeast.
I know how you feel… at least the holidays are something to look forward to.
