This week marked the first time I ever laid eyes on the Grand Canyon, courtesy of a bus trip from Las Vegas and a new freelancing gig with Viator. The Canyon is stunning — that goes without saying. But this trip solidified for me the type of traveler I’m becoming. It’s no longer enough for me to simply sightsee and look at something idly. When I looked down into the great trenches formed by the Colorado River, all I could think was how I wanted to be climbing or hiking or rafting all over it. But for now I’m so grateful I got a little taste of what is to come.

As I write this I am back in the arctic tundra that is Upstate New York. Let’s not talk about it.

Traveling alone means getting a little creative with self portraits. The photo on the right reminds me of one of the pictures in Photo of the Week 45!

Have you been to the Grand Canyon? Which photo is your favorite?

B! A self-portrait in silhouette, a cactus and a tee-pee? Can’t go wrong!!! Glad you enjoyed the canyon, my friend Km hiked it earlier this year – it looked SO hard!!!

I really want to get in and hike it someday! Or maybe raft it… seems a bit less strenuous 🙂

Come back to the the canyon in spring and fall and we’ll hike to the bottom. I never tire of the Grand Canyon view all summer while I work there.

B – because you’re in it. I’ve been there a few times. I had relatives (father’s sister) living there, Only time I met my two cousins – young adults. They’ve since passed away. Husband was Gen, Raleigh E. Chambers, commander of Koren war, and in charge of American Evacuation Hospitals in England during World War II

It really does give you some serious perspective. I’d love to get down in there someday soon… I imagine you feel even smaller looking up from the inside!
