Despite spending half the week here in Chiang Mai, all of this post’s photos come from my last days in Chiang Rai. After not really leaving our luxurious resort for days, when my sister left I felt the need to get out and explore! So I walked around the city one day and took a fabulous bicycle tour of the countryside the next.
Since I arrived in Chiang Mai, I’ve taken it easy — my days are filled with working, eating, and yoga-ing. I’m getting a little restless though — next week, you can look forward to photos of elephants, a massage course, and maybe even a cooking class!
This week, there turned out to be a serious theme going on…

I loved these fence-topping sculptures

The hostel I moved into after checking out of Le Meridian was right next to stunning Wat Phra Kaew

Which photo is your favorite?
Nice pics! D is just gorgeous, I guess I ought to go there…
It’s pretty close to you in Chiang Mai! Weekend getaway! 🙂
D! Gorgeous!
Thanks! Can’t wait to post more photos of what was absolutely the most unique temple I’ve ever been to.
Photo C! Love the angle 🙂
Thanks Erica! Oh, and I have a post coming up about the Dali Museum as well 🙂
D is absolutely stunning! I’ve GOT to get over there to see that!!!! Thanks, Alex, safe travels!!!!
Thanks for the warm wishes, Chris!
No contest PHOTO D
Are you sad you missed it? Honestly it was great but you know they could have built it a little closer to our pool, just sayin’….
Photo D!
Might be one of my most unanimous weeks ever!
That hostel looks awesome. Definitely a Buddha sort of day.
If you look at my Instagram it kind of seems that every day is a Buddha sort of day here in Thailand 🙂
Photo D…although I do love the bicycle photo as well.
That’s one of my favorite shots this week 🙂 It was such a cool tour!
i like how quirky Photo C is, and Photo E makes me feel like i’m there. 🙂
To be honest I thought Photo C would be the most popular! Happy to hear someone voted for it 🙂
Greetings from Siem Reap. I like D. We have not been there yet. Gotta get there. Not this trip, though.
Thank you Chet! I don’t like Chiang Rai as much as I like Siem Reap, but it’s definitely worth a visit 🙂
Thanks for great pics! We’re now in HuaHin and thinking about moving to a new place. I guess i’d just found it 😉
I was in Vietnam last year, but didn’t make it up to Hua Hin! Will have to return at some point!
With a place as beautiful and photogenic as D, it’s hard not to vote for it so add me to that tally! 🙂
It’s definitely the most unique temple I’ve ever been to in Thailand! If only I could have taken photos of the inside, where the mural included both George W. Bush and Angry Birds!
Hi Alex,
I absolutely love your blog! I am planning my first ever trip to Thailand, and I was wondering whether you had a particular area that you love the most? Trawling through your archives, so many places look amazing! It’s really hard to decide where to go, because I haven’t traveled there before so have no idea how easy it is to get around, from the airport etc! I would like to go somewhere that isn’t too touristy or built up, but not super remote either! Any suggestions would be fab! Thanks – Ollie
Hey Ollie! Hard to choose, as Koh Tao is like a second home to me. But Railay is probably the most beautiful part of Thailand I’ve ever been to! If you’re looking for somewhere in the North, Pai would be my pick. Enjoy!
