Greetings from El Salvador! After nine days in El Cuco where I was lucky to get nine minutes a day of wifi, it feels almost overwhelming to be back on the grid here in El Tunco. (Overwhelming in a bad way when it comes to my inbox, overwhelming in a crazy fabulous way when it comes to how many new episodes of Parks and Recreation I just downloaded.)
I’m buzzing over the Equilibrio, the event this trip to Central America was built around — a first time festival created by several of my dear friends from Brooklyn. It was a beautiful balance of days filled with workshops on movement, art, and dreaming big, and nights spent dancing under the stars with our feet in the sand.
I left Equilibrio brimming with inspiration and covered with sun. I can’t wait to share more. But for now, I have some emails to answer… and some Leslie Knope bonding to do. Here’s a little peek of what’s to come.

Which photo is your favorite?
I love photo D with the surfboard colors and reflected Palm trees! Looks like a great experience!
It so was! And yes, I went nuts for that palm tree reflection!
Tough one… I’m going to go with E though – you girls look like you’re having so much fun!!!
We were! And I had three perfect models π
LOVE F! Fire is so hypnotic and evocative.
It was a great way to close the festival. They built a beautiful structure!
Photo D- I love the palm tree reflection!
It totally hypnotized me — I was out there with my camera for ages!
I love photos E & F…it looks like a magical place! Enjoy your Parks and Rec marathon π
I just can’t believe it’s almost over! Sob!
Gotta go with photo E on this one – so much happiness and that palm tree lined beach looks AMAZING!
I couldn’t stop talking about that thick palm fringe lining the beach. So beautiful!
Photo E! I love that you’ve captured the moment. I love living vicariously through your Central American adventures!
Thanks Michelle! I am definitely addicted to this part of the world.
F is truly mesmerizing, but as someone who has an underwater camera, I have always loved in-the-water pictures, and I know how much fun it is to jump around and snap silly shots! E wins it for me this round.
It really is! Love having something I can take out into the ocean — and such silly and beautiful friends willing to jump on command π
F is STUNNING. You are such a good night photographer, Alex! And Equilibrio seems right up my street. I love the way you build your travels around these things!
Funny because I always feel I’m a weak night photographer since I’m more of an “eye for it” person than a technically trained genius. Glad to hear maybe I am being too hard on myself!
Hey Alex,
Every pic in this post is great but when I came to F, I was totally drawn. Such a great picture @ night!!
Thanks Rekha. It was a powerful moment!
Photo E – It looks like you’re flying! (and having a lot of fun)
I was actually behind the lens for that one (I just realized the blonde hair of my friend Anna might be confusing!) π But man, yes we were having fun!
I love photo A. Looks like the perfect place to do yoga <3
I will miss the almost daily classes I took there. I’ve never done so much yoga in my life as I have here in Central America!
Hard to choose – all of them look pretty great – But somewhere between E and F.
They seem to be the two favorite this week π Love it!
Hi Alex,
It’s photo B for me today. I really like the combination of the bright colours with the fruit and the beach and I definitely need a little inspiration to keep my creative juices flowing at the moment!
This festival definitely got mine going! Can’t wait to implement some of the ideas!
That’s wonderful. This is the one thing that I find about travel-is the inspiration it provides me to be a creative individual. The Writer Elizabeth Gilbert has been known to say that she lives life ‘curiously.’
I think for me it is ‘inspiration’ which drives me forward in my life and has shown itself in many ways. Some which may just look ordinary from the outside but for me as a person have been challenging.
How about you Alex?
On good days, I’d like to say it’s a rest of adventure. On bad days… I start to worry I’m just restless! π
Sounds, and looks, amazing! Can’t wait to hear more!
Working hard to get caught up π So much good stuff to share!
I am choosing A. Been attempting yoga myself. The old body is still recovering.
It’s been a great experience for me. I have been practicing more than ever! Good for you for giving it a go.
definitely F π
The frontrunner so far, I think!
A & F! Equilibrio sounds like perfection, can’t wait to read more about it and SOUTH AMERICA! Yet another place you’ve got me dying to get to.
Central*, that is. =)
Definitely my second favorite area of the world. Love love love!
I like photo D for the reflection – so calm!
It was the perfect place for a retreat. Intensely serene!
I really like Photo C! Those pictures are beautiful and I love the artsy film camera (only arsty because nobody uses film anymore). Looks like you had fun!
Ha, I’ve never seen so much film as I did at this festival! Lots of artsy types on the loose π
I would choose photo F – because I could use a good party
It was a great one π
Love the reflection in D and the intensity in F. Can’t wait to read about the experience!
Can’t wait to share!
Wow…first of all beautiful images!
My favourite is with the surf board, or photo D.
Looks so tempting to jump with one of them out to the ocean π Makes me really want to visit El Salvador <3
It’s a beautiful, under-appreciated little country! Happy I’m going to be able to give it some blog love.
Hi there!
Nice blog π I also visited Salvador last year and I loved this city. Although a bit expensive, but still people are so nice and the food is deliciouos.
The photos are amazing and looks like you had lots of fun and enjoy the carnaval π
Thanks Kris
You visited El Cuco, Kris? I feel like I can barely say I saw El Cuco, really — we didn’t leave Tortuga Verde!
Photo E is full of life. It speaks to us about how much fun you’ve had.
It was an amazing week full of smiles!
