Hey friends 👋🏼 How are you guys? Like really?

Confession alert: I’ve been feeling a little disconnected lately from Instagram! Which is crazy because I have such an amazing travel community here. I don’t want to be one of those ‘grammers who groans about the algorithm all the time but I admit it is hard to get excited about pouring energy and effort into a void.

So, let’s talk!

My weekend was all about getting out the door for a big international adventure that might take me to as many as three countries (flying to Israel for @wanderwomenretreats on a one way, so definitely going there, ha, but have some exciting stuff in the works for after… any guesses? 😇)

I was also on a mission this weekend to book my summer travel which was kinda making me pull my hair out TBH! Flights are crazy expensive and I have ten bajillion points (rough estimate) and can’t use them for anything 🤣 I did just download the TPG app so hoping that helps me figure out how!

I’m still also just basically planning my entire summer around the idea that I’m going to Burning Man despite not yet having manifested a ticket 🤪

Oh and I’m writing this caption from a connection where an airline employee made me cry and screamed in my face that I was welcome to report him while doing so… 😁

So yah, for every dreamy travel photo from the Maldives remember that no one escapes the less glam side of travel! Crying in airports and wanting to throw your laptop out a window mainly, ha.

Post-retreat treat! 🙌🏼

After @wanderwomenretreats at sea wrapped, @travelingspud and I headed off for the quintessential Maldives experience… an over water bungalow!

Did you know that almost every Maldives resort lives on its own little island? That means you have to REALLY think about where you want to stay, because this is a case where the accommodation is pretty much the destination, in most cases!

I don’t think I fully realized that before I started planning this trip. Like, there’s no popping out to check out a local restaurant or wandering into town. Welcome to your hotel you live here now lol.

So, to find ours, we looked at price as well as vibe — we wanted somewhere that felt fun for a girlfriend getaway and not overwhelmingly romantic. Originally, I wanted somewhere we could go by boat transfer from Malé rather than by seaplane but I gave that up and we ended up at the new @thestandardmaldives.

If you watched my stories you know there were pros and cons 😉 I think the pros you can see from these photos — we loved the funky design, the wellness program and lush spa, and the activities like movie night under the stars and free wine tasting. We didn’t love the truly underwhelming service. But we laughed it off and reminded ourselves that compared to many Maldives resorts, we were getting a deal!

We spent five nights here which was perfect. I think if I were doing a longer land-based Maldives trip, I’d switch up resorts to keep it fresh!

I’ll do a longer blog post about this and comparing it to other over-water bungalow experiences I’ve had. (Guys I’m spoiled! I realized I’ve done them in Jamaica, Indonesia, French Polynesia and now here… plus, if you count it, a creaky old overwater hostel in Panama, ha ha.) But, just wanted to share my hot takes here!

At @wanderwomenretreats, we work hard, play hard, and match outfits whenever possible 🙌🏼 And we are looking to grow our team!

Honestly, for a long time, I have hired only within my closest in a circle. This company is my pride and joy and I’m surrounded by incredible women, so naturally I started there rather than a pile of resumes whenever I was looking to grow.

Plus, it’s intimate work. We pull long hours in close quarters. You have to know personalities mesh as well as passions and talents.

But, it’s time to be brave as we continue to grow! My right hand gal @hotmessyoga and I have been digging deep on who we need to add to our team most, and while the list is long (anyone know a publicist willing to do one hour per week for a client 😅) two positions we are ready to onboard are a social media manager and some photography interns!

Are you our next retreat photographer? We are looking for photographers with underwater and other speciality experience for our diving and aerial trips, as well as talented and passionate photographers for our yoga retreats.

Are you our future social media Manager? We are looking for someone to help manage and grow our accounts and help us connect with our customers we love so much more effectively!
