Tomorrow I’m wheels up out of San Juan del Sur and onward to Leon, exactly two weeks after arriving in this teeny surf town. I have bittersweet feelings about going. On one hand, I’ve really fallen in love with it here and can see how easy it would be to just never leave. On the other, it almost reminds me a bit too much of Koh Tao — it makes me homesick for my own little seaside happy place halfway across the planet, and all the people that make up my little Thailand family there.
It is pretty exciting, though, to find another place that I love enough to see myself settling down part time in someday. I mean, look a these photos… can you blame me?
Happy Monday, everyone.
Photo A
Not your traditional sunset shot, but something about this image gets me!
Photo B
Nicaragua continues to be one of the most colorful countries I’ve ever visited.
Photo C
My best day in the country so far, riding with Rancho Chilamate.
Photo D
More bright Nicaragua churches.
Photo E
Hiking to the town’s Jesus statue — and best viewpoint.
Photo F
Afternoon waves at Playa Maderas.
Which photo is your favorite?
I love C – very cool shot! I’ve heard great things about San Juan Del Sur, and hope to make it there soon!
It’s a really special little place. So happy I chose to spend a bulk of my time here π
Photo B for me! I love the colors and details. Glad you settled in and hope you like Leon just as much!
Sadly I won’t have much time there, which is a bummer. But it’s okay — I loved lazing around here instead π
Yes, love C! π
Thanks! Taken on horseback, no less π
B is for bright colors! But not for patterns even though I like those too.
Nicaragua is just drenched in color. I love it!
Loving C! The colors in all of them brightened up the rainy day I had today. Safe travels tomorrow!
Thumbs down to rain, but thumbs up to safe travels π Thanks Emily!
Photo E. I love the contrasts! Enjoy LeΓ³n and be sure to check out Viavia – it’s a great backpacker hostel / restaurant.
Thanks for the tip — I totally will!
Definitely photo A for me! New spins on sunsets rock!
Glad someone appreciated that one — I know it’s a bit unusual π
Ah, love the one with the horses! Definitely going to check those out. I definitely need to take a long weekend to San Juan Del Sur soon!
It’s really one of the coolest animal experiences I’ve had anywhere in the world. Loved it!
Photo C is actually a painting right? I mean, c’mon, that’s not a photo, that’s a PAINTING!!! Okay, I’m kidding but – WOW! Beautiful clarity, depth, colors…. Photo C is my fave for sure! And I wish I was on horseback in that pack with y’all! π
Man I wish I could paint that well π But yes, I love that photo because it reminds me of such a happy happy moment!
What a gorgeous part of the world. π I love that you’ve found a place that you can see yourself spending extended periods of time at. That is really special. My fave pic is D, the yellow church, its so pretty.
The churches here in Nicaragua are really gorgeous. I don’t normally have such a thing for them, but here I can’t seem to stay away!
Photo C…such a beautiful shot! Enjoy Leon. I never made it there when I was in Nicaragua but I’ve heard great things π
I’m excited to check it out, even for a few short days!
Love the silhouettes in Photo E!
Thanks! I was really proud of that shot and the maneuvering I had to do to get it π
I really like photo E, and I’m so happy you didn’t have to go to Jesus alone! Now get outta there and get BACK TO WORK π
Three posts down today. On it π
Photo A! I like the “realness” of the cables in front of the sun
Thanks Sarah! I think that’s what I like about it too. I’ve spent enough of my life photoshopping cables out, for once I wanted them in, ha.
I so love your pictures, especially that shot with you guys riding towards the sea on horseback. It’s so simple, yet so serene that it makes me want to go to a beach myself… sans horse of course, but it still has the same idea. Enjoying your shots, keep adding more!
I basically want to do to the beach at all times, so I feel ya π More photos coming out every week!
I am choosing photo E this week. The light came out perfectly on this photo.
Pretty light time is my favorite time of day π Right before sunset!
I love C as well–you should make it a postcard π
I keep meaning to make that happen! Add it to the never ending to-do list π
I love photo E, but there’s something about C… I think it’s my love of horses and footprint (or in this case hoofprint) photos. It’s beautiful!
Ha, I’m a footprint fan too π Maybe a reason I like that one so much as well!
I love all photos but both B & C really caught my eye. Beautiful! We are currently in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica which I hear is sort of similar to SJDS, Nica. We cannot wait to get there and explore! I hear it’s full of healthy food spots, yoga and surf – which is right up our alley.
Puerto Viejo is amazing! I really enjoyed my time there, though it wasn’t long enough. I preferred SJDS, though — you’ll have to let me know what you think.
I love Photo F; the painting on the side of the building is so interesting and bright. La Playa Maderas looks so inviting as well. Neat shot!
It’s a cute little beach. Wish I’d stayed there a few nights. Next time!
I’m loving these, but C instantly drew me in! It just LOOKS like it was a picture perfect day. Loved your IG — horse riding on the beach is definitely on my travel to do list!
I’m obsessed with Instagram lately! It’s the only social media I truly love. What even is Twitter? π
F or E! F or E! Can’t wait to read your riding post…
It’s basically just going to be like, nine hundred exclamation points in a row. Are you still excited? π
Photo F because I LOVE Playa Maderas!
It’s a cool little spot. Glad I made it there twice!
I like F, because its very real and zooms me straight back to this beautiful place! thanks
Happy to provide the virtual trip, Katrin π
I am digging Photo E a lot, I love the different depths of field. You always have great photos!
Thanks Kacy! It is a really fun creative challenge every week!
I actually love Photo D – which is strange because I haven’t spent a lot of time in churches. I think I like that photo because I’m not used to bright churches.
I can’t stop taking pictures of the brightly colored churches in Nicaragua! They are gorgeous and so unlike the ones I’ve seen elsewhere in the world.
Glad you’ve loved San Juan del Sur a little more than us (the scene was a bit too young and drunk for us)!
Photo E for me. One of my highlights of our time there, glad you took time out for the 20 min walk from town π
There’s totally another size to SJDS — the yoga and surf and spiritual side, which it’s too bad you didn’t stumble upon π I think there’s a lot more too it than the party scene!
