Ahhhhhhruba. That’s how I felt when I got off the plane. I know this might sound funny to some people, but diving trips are hard work! We left Bonaire happy but exhausted — in seven days we did seven dives, went on two snorkeling adventures, took a yoga class, survived a cave tour, drove up to the north of the island, and threw a surprise bachelorette party! All of which is to explain that when we got to Aruba, we had absolutely nothing on the agenda other than hanging out at the Divi Aruba All Inclusive. I’m sure I’ll return to Aruba someday for adventures — but this mini-trip was all about rest and relaxation.
After a three nights in Aruba I returned to New York City with exactly two weeks to go before saying goodbye to the East Coast for the rest of the year. Vacation is officially over, and I’m in lockdown mode while I pack, plan and prepare for my big West Coast adventure. Till next time, here’s Photo of the Week!

Looking for new travel sites to ad to your reading roster? Searching for the perfect gift for the wanderluster in your life? Each month from here forward, I’ll be sharing an inspiring selection of travel blogs, travel projects and travel shops. Not only are these fellow entrepreneurs following their passions and creating beautiful content, they’re also supporting Alex in Wanderland by advertising in my sidebar this month — please support them back by checking out their sites and cheering them along.
Because we decided to start early, I already introduced most of the current bloggers. But, here’s one more Alex in Wanderland featured blogger for August!
This American couple quit their jobs in 2014 to tackle the world, together. After many nomadic adventures, they’ve recently announced plans to head to Mexico with their loyal (and insanely adorable) husky as co-pilot. Norway to Nowhere documents not just their physical journey but also their emotional one.
Why I Love This Blog: Because having a good blog name is the foundation upon which all blog greatness is built — and they have a fantastic one!

My favorite picture is Photo D for no other reason then that it depicts exactly what I want to be doing right now! Hanging out at a beautiful resort right next to a beautiful resort sounds just about perfect right now, but unfortunately I’m going to have to hang out in the library this month! π Enjoy the East Coast and good luck preparing for the next leg of your adventure! π
Thanks Melanie! I hope your library has air con and a nice view… I actually reminisce sometimes about my college one!
omg photo cccccccccccccccccccccc!! that is awesome
Talented lady, right? π
love C
but i love that you’re staying at Divi Aruba — we stayed there for my wedding/honeymoon part 1. second part was occidental (worst idea ever)
people at Divi/Tamarjin were amazing!
Oh that’s awesome, Erin! At least the first part — what went wrong with the second? And I agree, the staff at Divi were super friendly and fun.
Oh we stayed at the occidental — they weren’t as friendly. and it didn’t feel like i was in aruba because nearly everything was inside. the pool was crowded. the beach was always packed — we usually went to another beach. and the food was eh considering we enjoyed the food at Divi, and we’re totally low maintenance people, easy to please!
It was amazing how the beach never felt too crowded at Divi, even when they were at full capacity. Loved that!
Photo B – because I could do with laying by that pool RIGHT NOW!
I’ll meet you there π
Hi Alex,
I’ve just come back from a swim in the Thames Estuary – near where I live in Southend on Sea. It’s no way near as exotic as the pool and place in the photograph where you have been but it was really lovely. Would have been great to share a little bit of my England with You! π
Love photo C – that’s an impressive pose!
Why, thank you! =)
She’s a rockstar!
Photo A! Love the font!
I just love hand-painted anything!
Gorgeous! I’m loving Photo A. Those clear waters and a boat are all I need to be happy (even if I’m not on the boat, haha). It sounds like relaxing weekend as definitely in order. 7 dives in 7 days sounds exhausting for sure!
Mixed in with all the rest, it was π But we sure saw an amazing amount of that island!
I am crazy impressed by Photo C, and Photo E is ridiculously adorable, but Photo D wins it for me this week. It’s completely picturesque!
Isn’t it? Kind of wish I could teleport myself back there right now!
Got to go with C! I’m still keeping my yoga and SUP separate for now haha but one day I’ll be doing this π
If you can headstand on the ground, I assure you that you can do it on a board! It’s actually a lot easier than it looks π
Don’t listen to Kristin. She’s crazy.
It’s going to be the yoga pose, photo c
It was a worthwhile excursion off the resort grounds… our one and only, ha!
What cities are you hitting up on your West Coast Adventure?!
Hey Joy! I’m heading to Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon, Page, Reno, Black Rock City, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Palm Springs!
Beautiful colors!! Love this, thanks for sharing.
Happy travels π
You are so welcome, Lauren! Thanks for reading!
Definitely Photo A for me.
I love the simplicity of the photo. Nothing but that one lonely boat in the frame.
You can’t even see the high rises behind me π
Gotta go with B. I’m all about the Tieks and have the same gold ones. π
I’m loving them — they just go with absolutely everything!
A, there’s something distinct and bold and inviting. It looks good enough to include in a media advertisement. Though I have to say they all make me want to get on a plane and head to the beach.
It doesn’t take much for me to say the same π I’m always up for some sand time!
Photo E is adorable! Love the faces. I’m exhausted just reading about your Bonaire trip! Glad you got to follow it up with some R&R.
As were we, Leah, as were we π
I love that first photo! The colors are so fantastic. And I love your new Tieks! I just tried a pair, too, and really really really wanted to love them, but they weren’t perfect on me. I’m still tempted to try another color – maybe that would help. Let me know how they hold up!
I’m actually wearing them as I type this! I’ve been looking for a really reliable pair of flats — usually I just buy them at Target and they do tend to fall apart pretty quickly. Hoping these stand the test of time!
I particularly love Photo D. I love the beach but sadly I can’t go back as often as I would to like to some of fave beaches.
It’s good to have favorites. I always want to go back to the same places over and over again… it’s going to be hard to make time for new ones, someday!
OMG photo E absolutely cracks me up. Can we redo the 100% bouncy couch all over again, please? π
Ha, oh my gosh… that guy was a trip. What a fun twenty minutes that was π
Not enough people are choosing E. Fear does not sell, haha. BEST TRIP EVER!
Chicken nugget, chicken nugget, chicken nugget, heart, octopus, dancing girls, dancing girls.
Your face on the bouncy couch is probably the best thing that’s appeared on Photo of the Week, ever π
WHEN WILL WORDPRESS ACCOMMODATE EMOJIS. WHEN.
All fantastic photos – have to go with C, simply for the mad yoga skills! Looking forward to your West Coast trip….I might actually recognize some places!
I’m looking forward to it as well… unprepared as I may be!
I choose Photo A – there’s someone about a boat bearing the name of a city, town, island that I like
It definitely makes for great blog content π
Photo A because the fonts and styles are looking very nice and also the boat is bearing a name of a city and a beautiful island.
I was so excited when I saw it π It’s like it was made for Instagram!
