Inertia. An object in motion tends to stay in motion, and a blogger not blogging tends to stay not blogging. That’s how I’ve felt this week… this month? September was one of my lightest posting months ever (tied with December 2014, for my fellow useless information hoarders) since I launched Alex in Wanderland, and October’s not off to a rocking start either. So what gives? I’m not burnt out — no, I’m chomping at the bit to get back to my content grinding days! I’m not hurting for content — in fact, my drafts folder is overflowing with travel tales I’ve yet to share. Frankly, I think I’ve just dropped the ball and am struggling to pick it back up again. I recently went through a crazy busy (even for me) personal period of travel/friends/family/non-content-creating-work/moving-across-the-world overload and it’s hard to get back into a routine of putting posting first again. And the truth is that the longer I go without blogging, the more overwhelming the next time pressing publish feels. Every morning I wake up and tell myself I will not allow myself to sleep again until I’ve posted, and yet night after night I weakly succumb to the pillow. This pit of self-loathing is a deep one, guys! Watch your step.
But it ends today. This afternoon, I loaded up my editorial calendar with posts for the upcoming week — almost one every single day — in order to break my blogging fast with a bang. I’ve missed you.
One thing that will make that easier? I’m finally back on Koh Tao. After leaving Bangkok, BB and I hopped to Phuket for five more days of my #ClubCarlsonAmbassador campaign. Despite the unrelenting rainfall we had a beautiful stay exploring Cape Panwa and and reveling in alone time after a crazy summer of meeting each others’ family and friends. We ate amazing food, we had an unbelievable spa day, we learned to make kratongs in Phang Nga bay, and we watched the sunrise over the ocean from our dream-like balcony. On our final day (with the sun taunting us from its first appearance in the sky, of course) we hopped a cab, plane, shuttle bus, ferry, and pickup truck back to our beloved Koh Tao… for the next six months. Six months! It’s been a long time since I could call a place home for such a long time.
There’s still plenty of work to be done, from finding an apartment to buying a motorbike to joining a gym to squeezing the faces off all the friends I’ve missed so dearly. And, oh, you know, catching up on that blog posting thing I mentioned. But for now, here’s a peek at what I got up to for the last seven days with Photo of the Week….

Looking for new travel sites to trawl now that I’ve dropped the ball? Curious about new content? Searching for the perfect gift for the wanderluster in your life? Each month, I’m sharing an inspiring selection of travel blogs, travel projects and travel shops right here! Not only are these fellow entrepreneurs following their passions and creating beautiful content, they’re also supporting Alex in Wanderland by advertising in my sidebar this month — please support them back by checking out their sites and cheering them along.
Introducing Alex in Wanderland’s featured bloggers for October!
Angie Away is one of my favorite travel blogs on the entire interwebs — and that’s not just because I occasionally appear on it. Angie and I went from being online peers to real-life pals a few years ago when I crashed her trip to Kauai, and we’ve since becoming fairly regular travel buddies. Angie’s tagline is “travel the world with the girl next door,” and reading her blog, you will!
Why I Love This Blog: Before Angie went Away, she was a big shot in the world of travel PR. In 2010, she quit her job to travel, but she’s still spinning gold from the lessons she learned there. Her PR and Social Media category is a hit factory of hilarity — I’ve snorted Diet Coke up my nose while reading posts like this one.
Cheskie — short for Francesa, if she doesn’t mind me telling you so! — asks a pretty good questions in her tagline. Why should we only get one year? She decided to turn her gap year into a Gap Life, and has been living and working in Australia ever since.
Why I Love This Blog: Right now, because Cheskie just started her Divemaster in Gili Air, just a stone’s throw — literally — from where I completed mine in Gili Trawangan. And I’m green with envy over her clever series name, the Divemaster Diaries (why didn’t I think of that?!)
The Southern California duo that makes up Surf Sea You & Me are living the adorable couple dream — surfing, scuba diving, and taking a year off to travel New Zealand and its surrounds. Best part? They’ve just kicked off their journey, so you can follow from start to finish.
Why I Love This Blog: You know I’m always on that cute graphics grind, and Kimberly and Tyler have that aesthetic nailed. Not to mention, a damn cute blog name!
This American couple packed up and moved across the pond to London, where they now spend their free time exploring in Britain and beyond. But that doesn’t mean Drive on The Left is limited to Europe – one peek at their destination page will show you they’ve been driving down all kinds of roads.
Why I Love This Blog: They still take the time to reply to every comment, a rarity in blogging these days. Oh, and I did I mention we have the same blog designer? (The answer is yes, yes I did.)
A born and bred New Englander, Mary travels the world taking gorgeous photos and collecting travel tales to share on her blog, Nomadic Elephant. Currently based in Maine, her weekend getaways come with a side serving of quaint.
Why I Love This Blog: The girl shares my love for both Bermuda and New Orleans, as well as naming her blog after an animal (the first iteration of this site was The Traveling Turtle, holler in the comments if you’ve been reading since those days!) and letting her readers chose her travel destinations — we’re off to a great start already.
Richelle is the go-to girl for information on teaching and studying abroad, specifically in China — the country she’s called home for the past couple years. Her blog Adventures Around Asia follows her extensive travels around Asia as well as her adventures in her new home away from home.
Why I Love This Blog: This chick knows her stuff — and you can know it too. Richelle offers travel planning services to those heading to China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

I visited the Radison Blu Phuket as part of the #ClubCarlsonAmbassador initiative, and was compensated for my time in doing so. More on my stay here coming up soon!
Can’t wait to read all the new posts! I love Photo B, I’m a sucker for yellow.
It’s hard for me to pick a favorite color, but if I was really pressed I think it would be yellow 🙂
They are all so beautiful, but D took my breath away!
Thank you chica! Always a pleasure to see your name pop up 🙂
I love photo E! What a cinematic homecoming photo 🙂
I know! It was the most gorgeous sunset photo I’ve seen in a long while. I felt blessed!
Photo e is the one for me. Who can resist Koh Tao!
Are you reaching the end of your blogging road Alex?
Nope 🙂 Like I said, I’m not burnt out. Just struggling with time management!
Glad to hear you’re back in Koh Tao! I miss it. I pick photo A this week!
It’s a special little island… steals a lot of people’s hearts!
Well, I’m going to have a cop out moment and choose both B & E because I can’t decide. They’re both so different anyway that it’s not reaaaally cheating. I hope you find your motivation to post again soon!
Thanks Marni. It’s coming 🙂 Just struggling with time now that I’m in the middle of a move!
The sky in photo E seriously makes my heart happy! The colors are so GORGEOUS!
That’s how I felt when I was looking at it in person! Heart bursting 🙂
Six months in Koh Tao? Wooow. I can’t even imagine how is it to live on a tropical island for that long.
Can’t wait to hear all the stories…
I did it once before, and it was magical! So excited to do it again 🙂
Feels ridiculous to say glad your back, when you post more than any other blogger I follow even on a “light” month…but I look forward to reading!
And photo A. Because it’s been a long day, and that looks awesome.
Thank you Sarah! That makes me feel a lot better 🙂
B and E, and curse you for sending me into a black hole of Angie’s posts when I was supposed to be going to bed 😉
I’ve been there! Angie’s posts are hilarious 🙂
All amazing as usual but ‘E’ is my fave as I love my moments watching the water go by off a boat.
If you are overwhelmed and can’t decide where to start I am headed to Phang Nga bay in a few weeks and would totally love and appreciate inspiration! I am ticking more of your sights off my list…it’s kind of stalkerish but in the best way!
🙂
Aw, you’re the best! I did a Viator trip and loved it 🙂 Didn’t get to see James Bond island though…
Photo A looks like heaven. Although Phuket and I have a love/hate relationship (with probably more hate than anything else).
I wouldn’t be beating yourself up so much about the lack of posting. You still post more frequently than any of the other blogs I follow!
Thanks Britt — that makes me feel a lot better 🙂 Still, I wanna get back to my usual soon!
Photo E because that sky is just gorgeous! It must have been amazing to set eyes on Koh Tao again. I didn’t realize you were going to be there for six whole months. I imagine it will feel good to settle down for a bit 🙂
Oh man, does it ever! It’s a little hectic right now looking for a bike and a house, but I know once that’s settled I’m going to be so thrilled to be in one place for a while.
I love photo C and your blog! Thanks for sharing
Aw, thanks Michelle! You made me smile 🙂
All of your photos are so beautiful, as always! 🙂 Can’t wait to be here in Thailand in just one week! Love it.
Ah, welcome back! Wishing you great weather and lots of yummy Thai food.
I love all the photos although I must say photo E was breath-taking. 🙂
I have yet to visit Thailand but I really hope to do so next year. And oh, I hope you can get to the blogging rhythm again. It’s true that the longer to stop doing one thing, the harder it is to get back to doing it. That happened to me before with my book blog and now I decided to just quit it. That’s why I’m working extra hard to follow my calendar for my travel blog. 🙂
I’m normally a machine when it comes to cranking out posts so this feels funny! Hope to get back into the swing of things soon.
Love the photo of Buddha and that solar flare you captured so beautifully! Happy to hear you’re feeling good back in Koh Tao. And I’m sorry we didn’t hang out more! I guess I’ll be seeing you in a week though so I won’t complain 😉
I think we’ll have plenty of time for catching up indeed 🙂
Looking forward to your future posts! I love Photo D – almost reminds me of the Buddha at the Lahaina Jodo Mission on Maui 🙂
I’ve been there! This was a surprise visit to see this guy. We had an hour to kill before our ferry and he was just a ten minute stroll away… so why not!
Love E for the soft shading of primary colors.
I doubt there is a writer alive or in time who has not had to fight their way back into productivity. I think the general and profound wisdom is…just start typing. The first 1,000 words might feel or be awful but your fingers and brain are just in first gear…
Hi to BB
Profound wisdom, as always 🙂 He says hi back!
photo e. it is like screaming out loud “finally i’m here”. p/s: more pics of bb & his sexy biceps please. ahaha. don’t get me wrong.
I’m sure many more are coming! 😉
Sometimes it’s good to take a break! Can’t wait to read you’re new posts though! Ah how could I choose anything else than the flag of Thailand? I would love to make my way back there one day! Enjoy your return to Koh Tao!
Thanks Dominique! It feels great to be here!
wow these are some really cool photos, really makes me wanna quit my job and get out there! keep being a radiant source of inspiration for all us 9-5’ers
Thank you Annie! What a beautiful comment — thank you for reading and cheering me on 🙂
Photo E. The others are absolutely beautiful and make me want to get on a plane like NOW, but for me, there’s nothing, NOTHING like a ship pursuing new horizons!
I know how you feel. It’s sometimes a hassle to live on a little island that you have to take a ferry on or off to get anywhere but views like that remind me it’s a blessing!
Alex, I love your blog and I am DYING to get to Thailand. I love all your photographs.
Is there a good time of year to go to Thailand? My focus would definitely be on islands/beaches and I don’t want to get when the water or air are too cold!
Hey Bunny! Check out the post on my homepage right now 🙂 There’s a link in it to a great website about weather in Thailand — it really varies by region of the country!
I love photo D, and photo A is a close second! Looking forward to a barrage of posts this week 🙂
Thanks Ashley! Looking forward to publishing!
Photo E is the best photo
very nice click……;)
Thanks for voting!
6 months in one place?! That will be interesting!
My first trip to Thailand is still 5 months away and already I know I need to plan at least a 2nd trip to explore the beaches and islands!
Well… I do have a few side trips planned 😉 But I will definitely have a home base again!
This is good stuff. I will be in Thailand in January so I’m soaking all this stuff up. Photo b. Looking forward to future posts!
Lots of Thailand posts in my archives too, if you get impatient waiting for more from this trip 🙂
