Greetings from Thailand! I’m over the (super) moon to be back in my home away from home. IT FEELS SO GOOD. I’m here in Southeast Asia again for the forseeable future, and that’s still soaking in. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
I spent my first three nights back in Bangkok running errands, sneaking in massages and delicious Thai meals wherever possible, and generally just trying to battle jetlag (I’m still losing) from the comfort of the stunning Radisson Blu Bangkok. I barely left the hotel! I was sad to leave the city so quickly but knowing I’ll be back in just a few weeks for TBEX made it a lot easier to say goodbye! Next up is Phuket for four days — a fun little detour on the way back to Koh Tao and a new destination for me in the Land of Smiles, I’m here collaborating on a campaign you’ll hear more about soon, and it’s the perfect mix of work and play.
Next week I’ll be sharing photos from Phuket — assuming it eventually stops raining and I can shoot a few! But for now, some snaps from one of my favorite cities in the world….

On top of the world!
Which photo is your favorite?
I visited the Radison Blu Bangkok as part of the #ClubCarlsonAmbassador initiative, and was compensated for my time in doing so. More on my stay here coming up soon!
So exciting! I love Photo 3, what a skyline!
Makes my heart go pitter patter 🙂 I love this city!
right at the moment I could do with a bit of raddison blu! 🙂
I had never stayed in one before — but I loved it!
Aw, you’re back in Thailand? I’m planning to return in November & December and hopefully join Pi Yeng festival and check out Koh Lipe – it’s getting killer reviews. How long are you staying for?
About six months 🙂 So happy to be here!
Back in Thailand! I really like the photo of the skyline of Bangkok. 🙂
It’s a stunner!
Oh the pool, escapism from the city.
Pretty much a necessity in this chaotic city — how I do love it so, though!
Love the one on the rooftop. We are heading to Thailand for 3 months in Dec..looking forward to reading your posts. We will stay in Bangkok 5 days, then travel to Hua Hin, then we have left ourselves to be free to travel where ever we wish.
Great photos and an adventuresome journey you have created for your self.
Sending warm hugs,
Xo
Dagmar 🙂
Thanks Dagmar! I have hundreds of Thailand posts to keep you occupied in the meantime until I start writing about this trip 🙂 Enjoy!
Photo A! Awesome pool 😀
She was a beauty…
I love the night skyline, but Photo A just looks so relaxing, warm, and peaceful! Love it!
The forecast had predicted nonstop rain, so we were so excited to see blue sky peek out!
That pool looks great!
I’m going to be in Thailand mid December over and Christmas and new year and going back to Koh Tao is on the agenda! It would be great to meet if we happen to be in the same place, I love your blog and what you do 🙂
Thanks Ellie! I’ll probably set up a reader meetup around that time as it is busy season and a few readers have mentioned they will be around 🙂
Ahh Bangkok, i sure do miss you!
Can’t wait to see what you’re working on! xo
Thanks Amy! Coming soon x
It’s gotta be A – just look at the view! I love the idea of a rooftop pool 🙂 Although I normally stay close to Khao San Road because it’s cheap and I know the area well, but next time I’m in the city I think I should splash out, at least for a couple of nights 🙂
I do love Rikka Inn and their rooftop pool when I’m in Khao San! But yes — staying in Sukhumvit is a great value for what it is, and a totally different experience.
Normally I would say that photo B is my favourite because I like the colours! but today I’ve arrived in Kalambaka, Greece to do some sightseeing in Meteora tomorrow! Unfortunately, it’s raining like crazy so I’m going for picture A and I’m hoping that it’ll send some blue skies my way!
Hope it cleared up for you! Nothing more frustrating than arriving in a dream destination to bad weather…
I love B! I want to sit at that bar.
Yep, Photo B sure is inviting. I mean, everyone else is going for Photo C.
I like that you’re going for the outliers 🙂
It was definitely a show-stopper!
All gorgeous as always but ‘A’ is calling to me as I am recovering from jetlag and getting ready to gear up for my next adventure. At some point I think I just surrender to it!
What an exhilarating feeling that is — minus the jetlag, of course. I’m so happy to finally have recovered from mine!
Totally! Someone asked me yesterday ‘what are you running from wanting to travel so much.’
I’m so glad I have your blog and other people who share my wanderlust 🙂
I’m a sucker for any type of rooftop photo, so I choose Photo A and C this week!
Me too. Love the view from above!
I was blown away by Photo C when I saw it on your Instagram, and equally blown away here! What a shot!
Thanks Erin! It’s a view that always makes my heart beat faster <3
Totally jealous. Great pics. I want to move to Thailand one day too and just do nothing but take pictures.
You’d certainly never run out of material here. So many gorgeous subjects!
Lucky, lucky, lucky you for being there right now.
Talking about photos, I would say Photo C, just because it is a night photo and I’m a night owl.
I love Bangkok at night. The city jut buzzes with life!
Ah, I can’t resist that Bangkok skyline. So it’s C for me 🙂 Wow, I can’t believe that TBEX is only a couple weeks away. Hmm, I should probably get on making my travel plans…
Woo hoo! Can’t wait to meet ya!
Photo C because it makes me super nostalgic for Bangkok 🙂
This city really grows on you doesn’t it. I’m so excited I get to be back there already in two weeks!
Welcome back to the Land of Smiles!
If you are ever at the Radisson Blu over the weekend you must try their brunch! Usually around 1000 baht, its a feast of epic proportions with some bubbles of course!
Have fun in Phuket! x
Which restaurant? 27 Bites? We did have breakfast there but sadly weren’t there over a weekend so no proper brunch for us 🙂
Wow, that hotel looks gorgeous! It’s a draw between A & B because no hotel in Bangkok is complete without a rooftop pool 😉
Couldn’t agree more! Let’s hope ours has one coming up soon…
You are free to join us in Munchkinland if you are still in Phuket this Saturday. 2 Elsas would blow their minds. I am a couple days behind you on the USA to Bangkok to Phuket journey and yes…jet lag is a bitch
Already on the move again I’m afraid! Hope you had better weather than we did…
Photo A because I’m falling hard for that roof top pool 🙂
I’m a bit of a Bangkok rooftop pool connoisseur… and this was a great one 😉
Oh myyy… A! This year I didn’t have a proper summer. The only two weeks of actual summer weather in Sweden, I have been in Greenland. I can at least imagine that I’m sunbathing by the pool 🙂
Greenland sounds pretty magical, but I’d be sad to miss out on summer too 🙂
Im starting to travel in Thailand in a few days and will be in Bangkok for a few days.
Do you know about the (?) MBK shopping mall? Is it worth having a look?
What other places in bangkok are must-sees ?
Thank you 🙂
Hey Lea, if you go to my destinations page and click on Bangkok you can read dozens and dozens of posts I’ve written about it and find so much info there! MBK is great for buying cheap electronics but it’s basically an indoor market, so it won’t be a glamorous shopping experience if that’s what you’re looking for. Happy planning!
Photo A wins out for sure. There is something about a beautiful pool that just makes me want to pack my bags.
Oh Thailand. How I wish I could also be there right now.
I am pretty thrilled to be back 🙂
C. Wow!
I know. That view never gets old!
I’m torn between Photos B & C! I’m a sucker for a beautiful skyline, but I love the design and decor in Photo B! It’s a tie!
I do love checking out all the different interiors of the hotels in Bangkok. They are always so well done! This one was no exception…
Very close to my house…walking distance in fact. Hope to see you in koh Tao.
What a great area to live in. I love Sukhumvit!
A — rooftop pools forever and eternity.
You make me want to give Bangkok another shot!! I get the feeling it’s more of an “insider” city like LA — not the most accessible but if you’re in the know, it rocks. No?
I think that is true, because I hear a lot of people say they didn’t like Bangkok the first time they were there but fell madly in love after a few visits. I still discover new things every time — and love it all the more!
Photo A looks pretty darn refreshing right about now! I have friends on Koh Samui for the week and am drooling over their waterfront pictures as well….just as I’m digging out the fleece jackets to prepare for fall 🙂
I do love a good weekend on Koh Samui. My neighbor! 🙂
I can only agree. Definitely one of my favorite cities in the world as well. Regarding the photos, well it’s a no brainer. No 3! Not many moments can beat Bangkok by night! I have visited a lot of the Thai islands, but never Khao Lak. Which island would you say is your favorite?
I haven’t been to Khao Lak either. Koh Tao is my home away from home, so I’d have to say that’s the fave 🙂
Yeah, Sorry, I meant Koh Tao. My fave is definitely the northern side Koh Phangan. It’s amazing how a well visited island like that still offers such beauty and peacefulness as you’ll find on the northern side. Fantastic. However I have to say, Thailand in general is a magical country, I can’t seem to get enough, neither can you I guess =)
Photo A!
I visited Thailand for the first time and this photo reminds me of the condo I stayed in with my good friend who was born and raised in Bangkok. She owns the condo and has graciously invited me back. Phuket is next on the travel agenda!
That sounds like a good friend indeed! Definitely take her up on it 🙂
Awesome! I always love your Thailand stories — can’t wait to read more!!
Thanks Erika! I am starting to plan some Thailand adventures…
I’ve been trying to decide where to stay for TBEX for ages, but I think you just took care of that decision for me. That pool…that bar…I think I’ll be very happy there.
Nice! Come say hi — I’ll be there too 🙂
WELCOME BACK TO THAILAND/ 🙂 photo b for me, because it reminds me im on vacation (the interior) very happy for this edition, looking forward to read more about KT and BB.
Plenty to come! Glad you’re looking forward to it!
Hi Alex,
I’m Misha, a newbie blogger from Indonesia who’s based in Bangkok.
If you are still in Bangkok and have some free time to meet up, I would be glad to show you some cool places around.
I really hope I could meet you in person and I wish you would share some tips on travel blogging for me 🙂
Take care and cheers,
Misha
Hey Misha! I’m gone now but will be back for TBEX! Are you going to the conference? If so, come say hi!
Oh Alex!
Thanks to you, I found out about TBEX.
I didn’t know about this before…
Yeah I think I’m gonna join as well!
So maybe see you there! 🙂
Yay I love your Thailand posts!
I’m living and studying in Bangkok for the fall and I’m constantly finding more to explore!
What an amazing place to study! I’ve always wanted to go rent a place there for a few months and try living in the big city 🙂
What’s “Thai SIM?”
– I choose Photo C – I love the city landscape.
The kind of SIM card that goes in your phone 🙂 In the past foreigners could just buy them anywhere, now you need to go to special centers and register them with your passport.
Silly me! I know what a SIM card is.
YAY!! Love this post – it’s getting me so excited for Thailand!!! I’ll be there for the TBEX Convention too. Leaving in a week :)) BTW love everything about where you were staying and the purple pillows! your pictures are always so beautiful!
Make sure to come up and say hi! Look forward to meeting you!
