Greetings from Koh Tao — again! It’s been exactly one month since we got back from our mini-getaway to Siem Reap, and I must admit island fever has begun to set in ever-so-slightly. Which is perfect timing, considering I’m heading to Koh Phangan this week to kick off hosting-palooza — Zoe, my best friend from Brooklyn, and Ian’s parents are both Thailand-bound on overlapping itineraries. Hence, I’ve got about eleven days of adventures ahead, and I’ve been working my butt off in anticipation.
Which is more or less an excuse/explanation for the fact that this was another week in which I struggled to find a subject for Photo of the Week. Monday through Friday saw me sitting at my desk from sun up till the wee hours, but I’m proud that I took a few hours each on Saturday and Sunday to do things that were totally un-work related (though I definitely felt guilty about it with a to-do list as long as my arm). On Saturday, I went to an acro yoga workshop and had a great Thai lunch date with Ian after. On Sunday, I grabbed some girlfriends and went to the beach — for the first time since Christmas (kind of a big deal when you live on a 13 square mile island!)
Apologies for the lack of choices this week — I promise I’ll be back with tons of photos and a big change of scenery next week. (And in the meantime, I’ve got more Aruba, and more Thailand coming up.) Till then…
A coco a day keeps the doctor away! Are you good at setting aside time for yourself even when work and to do lists are out of control?
Umm..I think I’m almost TOO good at it! Haha! That ever elusive balance is hard to achieve!
That coconut looks very refreshing right now! Have fun on your adventures!
Balance is indeed elusive! Work is consuming me at the moment but I look forward to tipping the scales on the other end next week π
Ahh I was going to go to acro! How was it?! I decided last minute to get my advanced and then my Deep Spec… There just isn’t enough time to do everything on this island!
Agreed — and I’ve spend months here π Acro is always a blast! But diving is pretty awesome too, don’t think you could have gone wrong.
I definitely am not very good at it! I always seem to start one small task before going to do something fun for myself and then that task turns into 5, 10, 20 tasks! I need to learn to stop! haha
Hopefully you get to stop and enjoy Koh Phangan this week! Happy beach time!
XO,
Sarah
Yup, definitely guilty of that — as well as creating to-do lists that are not even close to feasible for doing in a day! Talk about setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.
Balance schmalance!
I just worked 9 days straight so that I could take a mid-week weekend when a friend came to stay and I feel so lucky to be that flexible in my work schedule.
Pat yourself on the back for a week of hard work!
Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’m doing now π I guess that is its own kind of balance!
Looks lovely whatever you’re doing!
π
The breaks here are certainly picturesque!
Looks like paradise!
My favorite kind <3
Wait, so you aren’t in Aruba right now? How did you get back so fast?
Hey Cate! My Photo of the Week posts are my “real time” check-ins, while my other posts are written weeks or months after the fact — once I’ve had time to absorb the experience, edit my photos, compile my notes, and produce some detailed posts! Hope that makes all clear π
Looks amazing!!!
Thanks Tila! <3
Oh no, I was already feeling itchy about being stuck in snowy Germany, and this is not helping. Really wish it was possible for a coconut to materialise in my living room. Though then again, it is not the same, is it…
I miss them so much when I’m away! I know how you feel.
I used to think I was good at it, but now I’ve seemed to pile on more work than I think I can handle. Between working two jobs, seeing my boyfriend, friends and family, making time to blog, trip researching, and now starting school up again part-time, I think I’m going to have to create a little better of a work schedule for myself so I do get the time I need for myself. But isn’t that what makes it fun?! I love the busyness – I would be bored out of my mind if I didn’t always have something on the go π
Ha, that’s always been my motto — “better busy than bored!” But I think I often cross the threshold from busy into frantic, not a great distinction to make. These days I am for busy with scheduled downtime a part of the plan π
It’s so funny you ask that… I have a new full time job and I find it hard to juggle pleasure with work at the moment, especially since new beginnings are always a bit stressful. I enjoy reading travel blogs, so even though I’m a few days late reading your post: Here I am, to call in the weekend π
Better late than never always, Dominique π
bb looks pensive there. how is the banyan gang going? i recalled reading your blogs and brian is a crazy fella, meant it in a party way.
We definitely have a good time down there π
Looks fantastic we are Travelling around this wonderful country for a few months. Never ceases to amaze me how many wonderful places there are to visit.
I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been returning to Thailand for years and I never run out of places to go and things to see.
It is always acceptable to one post photos of handsome beaus and coconuts π
Ha, thanks Brit! I agree π
