I’ve actually spent the majority of this week in my upstate New York hometown of Albany, but I admit to barely picking up my camera while I’ve been here. Thus, my Photo of the Week options were taken during my final few days in New York City.

Photo A

The New Yorker

There are many iconic New York City hotels, but I think this one might have the best name, don’t you?

Photo B

The Manhattan Bridge

The Brooklyn Bridge gets all the glory. But the Manhattan Bridge has its charms as well.

Photo C

New York City Buildings

My new-found cloud addiction has surprisingly not wavered during my visit home.

Aww the New Yorker. That’s the hotel where I stayed when I first came to NYC for the au pair orientation in 2004. Four girls from Europe in one room…but it was so much fun and the location is great!!!I miss the city…after that 3day orientation I lived one year in Westchester County and every sunday we would get the first train into the city and take the last one out. Can’t wait for the rest of your pictures!

Wow what a story! That sounds like so much fun, what a great way to get to know the city and work a lucrative job at the same time.

B….while the sign on the New Yorker is iconic and has an in your face NYC attitude, the Manhattan Bridge talks to me. The sweeping lines of the bridge cables up to the tower give the picture a sense of motion, like you are falling up. The engineering that went into these NYC bridges is amazing considering when they were built so I admire that as well.

I never gave much thought to the engineering marvel of bridges… you’ll have to give me the story one day while we are caught in traffic on one!

My vote will go for the Manhattan Bridge picture. I’m a sucker for repetition patterns in photos.

I agree! Pattern is one of my favorite things to photograph and design with. Many of my senior thesis projects (I was a graphic design major) focused on pattern.

I like the bridge picture the most as well. There’s still some cool cloud action in it too though not as pretty as the third

I have become SUCH a cloud geek. I need to get a book about them so I can learn all the names and impress people with my could knowledge 🙂

My favorite is the cloud/building one. Such an artistic pose. Really makes you look twice!

Thanks Sophia! I actually took that one out of the sunroof of a car. Love the angle.

I’m going for the cloud photo, but in truth it is the angle of the buildings that I find more arresting than the wispy white stuff.

It’s the Manhattan Bridge, not the Brooklyn! You must know that, city girl!

I’m got to admit, though the bridge seems to be the most popular I agree with you I think. Photo C is my personal fave!

Love these architectural shots! I vote for the bridge if I HAVE to choose just one.

Thanks Cat! Its funny, Photo of the Week is usually something natural like a beach or flower but now I’m in the city so its all man-made marvels 🙂

I’m de-lurking today because I have to comment on these photos! I love all three as they bring back so many memories of my two years in NYC, but I love the view of the bridge. You’re right, the Brooklyn Bridge gets a lot of attention, and the Manhattan is just a beautiful. Well done!

Also, I’ve just finished reading your archives and am excited to keep following along. I have a sudden urge to try scuba diving…

Hi Heather! Welcome and thanks for de-lurking! 🙂 Isn’t NYC the greatest? I lived there for four years and I miss it almost every day. Where do you live now? I hope its near the beach so you can try diving soon…

NYC is definitely amazing! I live in Vancouver now, which is also pretty great. It’s not tropical, but there’s a ton of marine life, so I’m excited to get underwater and check it out.

Vancouver… brrr! Thus far I am still a “warm water wussy” diver, though I have been diving in Ibiza and in the Bahamas in January, both of which were pretty chilly!

Yes, I think it will definitely be chilly in the water here…but the tradeoff is that you can swim in the ocean during the day and then go skiing at night!

    Hey Alex…

I liked Photo C… at first It gives different impression to viewer….. It seems like picture is taken from really high building where you can only see clouds or sky…. but truth is picture is taken from the ground pointing at sky…

Thanks Victor! That one is my favorite as well 🙂
