Maldives, I 🤍 you — and I hope to get back to ya soon!

Guys we are trying to make some big decisions about future @wanderwomenretreats Maldives trips! Do we skip a year? Do it again in 2023? Keep the cultural extension? Do an overwater bungalow extension?

This is my last post from the Indian Ocean (for now!) so after weeks of seeing it my feed and stories, I’m dying to hear all the details what y’all would love to do with me in the future!

Do it from a place of love ✨

Regular workouts, a fitness routine, a movement practice, whatever you want to call it — it’s been a part of my life for a long time.

But in the last few years, I’ve felt an incredible shift.

Today I can honestly say that my desire to move my body every day comes primarily from craving the endorphin boost or sense of clarity that it brings to mind and soul.

In the past, I can say that my primary motivation was wanting my physical body to look a different way.

Ironically, I’m in some of the best physical shape of my life, building more strength and endurance all the time.

You know those studies about how plants that people say nice things to grow faster and larger than plants that people say mean things to? It sounds crazy right? But what if our bodies are the same?

Because the other swap I made around this time that I had a huge attitude change around fitness was to breakup with out-loud negative talk about myself. I’ve shared this before, but I LITERALLY banned myself from talking about weight loss, joking with friends about being “fat,” making self-deprecating comments about my body, or picking myself apart out loud.

You know what? Once I stopped verbalizing those thoughts that were once a constant yelling in my mind, they became a mere occasional whisper that I’ve learned to have a loving conversation with.

I feel like if it’s really hard to talk about all of this without sounding like an asshole 😅 but if there’s any advice I could give my past self or anyone else who struggles with this, it would be to find some joy in movement that isn’t tied to a future physical result — but rather the instant gratification of a mood boost, the time away from your screens, the community of a shared practice, whatever. And see if you can motivate yourself from a place of loving that instead of hating some part of your body.

Post-retreat in the Maldives, I was exhausted, and so what felt nourishing was only one day meant going to the gym, and the rest kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, swimming, and doing aerial yoga. And napping 🙃

Overwater Bungalow Room Tour! 💦🥂🙌🏼

We had so much fun in this room! So I’ll start with the big question I know everyone wants to know which is we paid about $560 a night for this bungalow which in the Maldives is actually a steal. Save this post for tips if you’re planning on heading to one!

🍸 Carefully consider your F&B options! We chose the breakfast only package and later calculated we saved versus doing any of the other options — we wanted freedom to go to whatever restaurant we wanted (there was one buffet, a cafe, and two speciality restaurants) and even order room service which we did once for dinner and once for a poolside lunch! So we got to have our freedom but also did a lot of strategically hitting happy hour (and free wine night!) and splitting dishes and then seeing if we were still hungry so we didn’t massively over-order.

🌅 Choose wisely. The position of an overwater bungalow matters and while we paid a little more for the “ocean” versus “lagoon” bungalow since lagoon was sold out, in the end I was happy we did because we had a little more of that castaway feel; staring out at the ocean versus back at the resort. Also think about if it’s more important to you to watch sunset or sunrise from your room — I love sneaking out and watching sunrise from the quiet of my own deck, but loved doing sunset at the resort bars and pools.

🤿 Don’t overbook yourself! We had so much fun snorkeling off the deck, drinking in the pool, and watching the sunrise from the loungers (okay that was mainly just me — I need to sleep more srsly.) Luckily there isn’t a lot to do in The Maldives tour-wise so we weren’t too tempted to leave but when you pay a lot for a unique room experience, remember to leave room to enjoy it!

Hey friends 👋🏼 How are you guys? Like really?

Confession alert: I’ve been feeling a little disconnected lately from Instagram! Which is crazy because I have such an amazing travel community here. I don’t want to be one of those ‘grammers who groans about the algorithm all the time but I admit it is hard to get excited about pouring energy and effort into a void.

So, let’s talk!

My weekend was all about getting out the door for a big international adventure that might take me to as many as three countries (flying to Israel for @wanderwomenretreats on a one way, so definitely going there, ha, but have some exciting stuff in the works for after… any guesses? 😇)

I was also on a mission this weekend to book my summer travel which was kinda making me pull my hair out TBH! Flights are crazy expensive and I have ten bajillion points (rough estimate) and can’t use them for anything 🤣 I did just download the TPG app so hoping that helps me figure out how!

I’m still also just basically planning my entire summer around the idea that I’m going to Burning Man despite not yet having manifested a ticket 🤪

Oh and I’m writing this caption from a connection where an airline employee made me cry and screamed in my face that I was welcome to report him while doing so… 😁

So yah, for every dreamy travel photo from the Maldives remember that no one escapes the less glam side of travel! Crying in airports and wanting to throw your laptop out a window mainly, ha.
