I had a conversation with a friend from the dive shop this week about my recent trip home, and I heard myself saying something that I had never really thought about before — at this point in my life, it’s the trips home that are hectic. Life abroad is when things even out and feel normal again.
It feels like a blessing to slow down and pay rent for a month and get a mini routine going again here in Gili Trawangan. As time goes on I realize how necessary these periods of stillness are in my life, especially as I’m gearing up for the next big wild adventure. Oh, did I mention I’m planning a trip? Sounds like I need to do another upcoming travel plans post….
But for now, onto Photo of the Week! This is my favorite collection of photos in a while. I’m feeling inspired these days!
Photo A
Lush life in Gili
Photo B
This rainbow left a smile on my face all day
Photo C
A scene from my bike ride, and a reminder on the back of a bathroom door
Photo D
A turtle’s point of view
Which photo is your favorite?
PS: Please check out the short and snappy interview I did this week on Johnny Jet! It’s my favorite interview I’ve done in a while and I’m honored to be among such company. Great questions!
My favourite is A, especially the one on the left. It has such beautiful colours.
Thanks Skuli! It’s funny to find such beauty in such an ordinary thing, eh?
Photo C, cause the Mark Twain quote is one of my favourites 🙂
I love that one too. Gives me chills!
A is terrific – I want to know how the u-npatched hole in the wall came to be, what exactly is that hanging there that looks like a window and plants came make the most mundane scene look better….that said the view over the turtle’s back in D gets my vote…makes you wonder what it is like to be a turtle.
Diving gives you a pretty good idea of what its like to be a turtle… we’ll need to try it again sometime 🙂
All of them are beautiful and telling the stories, Alex. However, I would go with Photo B.
I think that is my favorite of the week as well. I was so happy, sitting and looking at that rainbow!
Yep, I can relate to that!! I’m definitely more relaxed and feel more myself traveling or living abroad than I do at ‘home.’ I have to go with the turtle, I absolutely love them and have very fond memories of snorkeling with them every day on Gili Meno, but I have never seen this unique perspective!!
I still haven’t made it over to Gili Meno! What a shame. Maybe I can convince Anders that’s how we need to spend his next day off!
Photo D – great pic!
Thanks Chris! Perspective is a funny thing, eh? 🙂
I love the colours in B! The seemingly gloomy and grey sky with the pop of coulors from the boats and rainbow is beautiful. That said, I love the turtles-point-of-view photo, such a great perspective!
Thanks Olive! You picked my two faves of the week right there. Thanks for voting!
LOVE the rainbow and totally understand why that left a smile on your face. rainbows are the best (well besides unicorns obviously) but how can I not vote for a turtle?! especially with the cool perspective…so they both get my vote.
Haha, love the unicorn comment 🙂 Not surprised you picked the turtle though!
Your photography just keeps getting better and better! I’m a sucker for rainbows, so B!!!
Thank you Andi! I particularly love this set, I was feeling very inspired this week!
I love A–the squared lines of the windows against the soft curves of the plants –so
“grabbing ” attention !! And WOW coloring.
LOVE IT
Thanks Gram! Always so lovely to hear from you! Love YOU! 🙂
Hi Alex,Your photographic skills are great;each picture reflects personality. My favorite is photo “B”The subject is GREAT;what an “island fleet” you captured;(did ya appreciate the types of craft?)The background of mountains and the rainbow.Immediate thought: Gardner McKay, Adventures in Paradise. QUALITY !
Thanks John! I do love the Indonesian style of boat. I’d love to frame this one someday.
I love Photo B! There is always something so special about a rainbow! 🙂 And now I’m completely curious to know where you’ll travel next! 😉 Can’t wait for you to announce your plans soon!
xx
I can’t wait to announce it either… you guys always give me the best advice!
Photo B
Romance Rainbow
Good Luck
Come and visit SULTANATE OF OMAN !!!
Perhaps someday I’ll get there! 🙂
They are all wonderful, and I’m torn between A and D… but my vote goes to A 🙂
Looking forward to your next update from the Gilis
Thanks Lily! Lots of Gili blog love to come 🙂
The Rainbow B is lovely but the Diver in me has to go with the Turtle D. One of my favorite sea critters.
Ah, I just love turtles as well. Seeing them underwater, how elegantly they move… they are magical creatures!
