This week I made my way back down to the heart of Thailand after my extended exploration up North. En route I stopped for two days in the ancient capital of Sukhothai, which I’ve been wanting to visit since my trips to Ayutthaya and Lopburi last year. Then I made my way to Bangkok, from where I write you now. Bangkok is one of my favorite cities in the world, and it feels like home to be back here. Last night I checked out the Talad Rot Fai night market and it melted my heart — vintage wares, painfully hip people, and tons of delicious street food to snack on. Can’t wait to post more about it!

Tomorrow, I have a flight booked to the Philippines. Can we be real for a minute here? I’m kind of in panic mode here — to the point that I’m not sure I’m going to get on that plane. Am I really ready to leave Thailand? I’m really torn, going back and forth every minute –and it’s a horrible feeling. Do I want to explore somewhere new, stay put somewhere fabulous and familiar, or what the heck — go travel to Vietnam or Cambodia or Laos and see all the bits I missed last time. I guess you’ll see from next week’s Photo of the Week what I decided to do!

Photo A

Sukhothai RuinsI loved the gold painted nails on many of the Buddhas in Sukhothai — I’d never seen them on that scale anywhere else in Thailand.

I’m torn between A and E! I love the colors in E and how it speaks to the market culture, but the gold nails crack me up.

There are 2 Fs. The one on the right in f.2 is probably the best photograph ever taken.

Ooh, A! Great shot–and I’m glad to hear you liked Sukhothai. We really enjoyed exploring it as well! I’m looking forward to hearing what you decide to do next. I’m in Laos for another 10 days or so, then heading to Vietnam…
