Today I’m posting from Rochester, New York, which is most famous for being the home of Kodak and my sister Margaret. We are having all kinds of fun but thus far the highlight was a trip to the American-and-Canadian-shared natural wonder that is Niagara Falls. Mostly, this trip was all about the fashion.
What? You don’t think blue ponchos are hot? Then you should stay far away from Maid of the Mist, the boat that brings you face to face with the falls. It is SO MUCH FUN. Also, Jim and Pam from The Office got married on it. Now you have no reason not to go.
Photo A
The classic shot of the American side of the falls.
Photo B
I love the chaos in this photo, which was taken at the adrenaline highlight of the boat ride.
Photo C
The Maid of the Mist from above. Fun Fact: This photo was taken in Canada!
Photo D
Another water-abstracted shot, this one taken of people climbing up the American side of the falls. Don’t they look like blue hobbits?
Have you guys ever been to Niagara Falls? Which photo is your favorite?
B. Not the customary shot of the Falls and very cool positioning of the sea of white and sea of blue
That is my favorite as well π
Been there several times – lived in Michigan, so it wasn’t too far across Canada. Pic choice is A. Doubt if I’ll make the trip again. Hi to Margaret.
I’ll tell her you said hi! Seems like Niagara Falls is one of those things that everybody has to do at least once.
It appears the family is weighing in first today. I’m loving D…the diffuse lighting and the fact that you can see the outline of the hobbits inside their blue ponchos…
Your maternal great grandparents were on Maid of the Mist for their honeymoon in 1926…and there is photo documentation of them in their ponchos…so sweet.
I’m definitely going to scan those photos in when I do my full Niagara Falls post! They are amazing!
I do love the whole artsy feel in photo D, but my favorite is definitely photo C!
I love the way the mist is shooting up and almost morphing into the clouds. Its a classic shot, thanks for voting!
Haha love that you mentioned The Office – one of my faves. I like the variety and the less usual photo angles and activities of Niagara Falls. I know the falls aren’t in it but I really like photo D with the water droplets making it look all ethereal or something.
Oh my gosh, I just love The Office so much! I think there’s at least one more season… I’ll be so sad when it’s over!
I like D best. All those little blue people tromping around…. and the colors are beautiful. Good job!!!!!!
Thanks Gram! That one was a wild card… I’m glad people like it!
I like C. The water is a nice color. I’ve never been to Niagara Falls! Eventually, I’ll get there…
I think it’s one of those places you’ve got to go once π
I have to vote for C. I was fortunate to go to Niagara Falls Canada a couple of years ago and had a view of both falls from the Canadian side in my hotel room. It was mesmerizing and the chairs in the room faced the window not the room, which you can see why. In the evening the falls are lit up with different colors and they change. Sleep with the curtains open and the light show is amazing. So, this reminded me of a fun trip.
Margaret told me about the lights at night… I’ll have to go back someday and stay overnight so I can see it. Sounds like a great trip!
Amazing… Water color is very nice and beautiful.
It was definitely an amazing natural wonder, thanks for commenting!
I’m going to vote for C, because I love the photo and as a Canadian I’m totally biased π
That is as good a reason as any! I got such a kick over walking into Canada…
I like the vantage point of A the best. I lived in Buffalo for a few years and have been to the Falls many times, but never on the Maid of the Mist. If I had known the view was like that I would have.
My husband was actually born in Niagara Falls, NY and swore the Maid of the Mist was overrated. I now think he’s full of it.
I think he is too! π I was expecting a cheesy little boat ride but whoa, it was so cool! You really feel like you are right in the waterfall, everyone is soaking and shrieking and trying to stay balanced — its a really fun time!
Excellent photos, as always, Alex π
Must.buy.blue.poncho.and.green.bug.glasses..super hot!!
Well the poncho you’ll have to head to Niagara for, but the sunglasses are 2GBP from Primark!
I’m going for the Hobbits! I love the colour in all of the shots though – such an incredible shade of blue. When I was getting rid of all my stuff in preparation for our trip I actually found my old blue plastic poncho from The Maid of the Mist! Don’t know why I kept it all those years, but it made me smile, just like your photos did π
Hannah, that’s so fun that you found yours! I kept mine to use in the rain and my sister kept hers for a Halloween costume π
Love Hannah’s bue poncho story, and all your photos, but especially B. Cool action shot, and shows just how close you got!!!!
It was definitely closer than I expected! It’s a pretty adventurous little boat ride!
Hi Alex! I have been following your blog for a while now and love it! I would like to start a blog, but have yet to start. I live in Buffalo, just a few minutes away from Niagara Falls! It’s quite a site! Looks like you had a fab time!
Thank you so much Kellye! Coming up someday there will be a full post about Niagara Falls and Rochester… stay tuned!
