I had this sudden realization this week that I have more time in Koh Tao behind me than ahead of me — at least for this trip — and it had me feeling all kinds of sentimental about this little rock in the Gulf of Thailand. While I had a long list of deadlines and a heavy workload, I often found myself closing my computer once the most urgent assignments were completed and leaving the rest of the to-do list undone in favor of sunset on the beach, paddleboard gossip sessions with friends, or sneaking off for a cheeky Thai massage. It feels pretty good.
Yesterday, I dognapped a friend’s pup for a hike across the island to Laem Tien beach. It was the first time I took my camera out all week. Happy Sunday, guys.

Which photo is your favorite?
Photo B! I love the bright blue sky and turquoise water. But that pup in A is pretty cute too 🙂
She’s a beautiful little dog and had the time of her life on that hike! It was a great time 🙂
I love the color and composition of photo A. I may be a bit biased though, since I love dogs!
I’m with you. Not having one is I think one of the biggest sacrifices of my current nomadic lifestyle… hence why I have to steal one every once in a while!
A!!!
She’s a happy pup indeed 🙂
Hi Alex,
It’s Koh Tao – I like them all!
🙂
Love having another Koh Tao lover in the comments 😉
Ha, I agree with Janice 🙂 They’re all lovely!
Thanks Miriam! It was a lovely little walk.
Photo B- such a cool shot!
Thanks Ashley! I don’t know who put up all those cool hanging sculptures all over the beach — it’s an hour’s hike from the nearest road with nothing but an old abandoned hotel on it — but I do love them!
I’d have expected it would be the puppy for me, no brainer, however I think B has snuck through this week!
It’s hard to resist blue skies and blue water!
Oohh, the beach is calling! I love Photo B! 🙂
It might be calling me back today after work, too 🙂
1000% A! Puppies are such joy magnets. They remind you to stop and smell the flowers and are always happy to see a new day.
That is so incredibly true and I can’t tell you how much I love the phrase “joy magnets” 🙂 Happy days!
Love the pictures! Random question which you may know better than most – what type of work is available to foreigners on Koh Tao (none freelance related). The only jobs I’ve heard of in Thailand are either teaching, bar work or specialised work i.e. diving instructor.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it. My friends here mainly work in diving (teaching, administration or videography) or as bartenders. There is no ESL school here on the island but in other parts of Thailand that’s an option. And of course some own businesses, be they restaurants, dive schools, guesthouses, whatever.
I like the compositions of the photos in C, but I love photo A! What could be better than hiking to the beach with a canine companion.
Not much 🙂 It would only be better if my little cocker spaniel Tucker was here! But since he doesn’t like long plane rides, this cutie Sadie was a great buddy.
Luck you that you have more time ahead of you. Pics look pretty nice. I wouldn’t mind being in your shoes right now.
Actually, more time behind me 🙁 My leaving date is coming up all too soon. I know I’ll be back, though.
I’m going to go with A this week…that puppy is so cute 🙂
I love her! Hopefully she becomes a regular hiking buddy 🙂
Although the puppy is cute, I love photo B. It is just like my daydreams; it is hazy. How I would love to be anywhere by the Mediterranean Sea right now.
Well, this one is the Gulf of Thailand, but the Mediterranean is pretty damn gorgeous too! I’d take either 🙂
I am choosing Photo B. Need to look at something soothing this week.
There’s nothing as calming as the ocean. Hope it does the trick x
B! I love focusing on a detail against a beautiful background.
I just love the creative use of coral! I might have to make some sculptures of my own in the same style 🙂
Photo A for sure….her smile melts my heart….I am a dog lover….glad to hear that she is having the time of her life in Koh Tao….
I’m a dog lover too 🙂 That’s how they end up in so many of my posts, ha!
